St. Joseph of Copertino, by Rev. Angelo Pastrovicchi, translated by Rev. Francis S. Laing

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/st-joseph-of-copertino-by-rev-angelo-pastrovicchi/
Joseph of Copertino (1603 – 1663) was an Italian Conventual Franciscan friar who is honored as a Christian mystic and saint. He was said to have been remarkably unclever, but prone to miraculous levitation and intense ecstatic visions that left him gaping.  Joseph began to experience ecstatic visions as a child, which were to continue throughout his life, and made him the object of scorn. He applied to the Conventual Franciscan friars, but was rejected due to his lack of education. He then pleaded with them to serve in their stables. After several years of working there, he had so impressed the friars with the devotion and simplicity of his life that he was admitted to their Order, destined to become a Catholic priest, in 1625.

This Biography, portraying one of the great saints of the Franciscan Order, was written in 1753, at the time of his beatification. It is based on the Acta Sanctorum and the offical documentation from the process for his beatification. Canonized in 1767, St. Joseph of Copertino is the Patron of Students and of those who fly. Welcome to LibriVox! Chapters 1-3 are yours. Please read the first post of this thread carefully.

Please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. It can be your real name, forum name or a pseudonym ~ whatever you prefer

Also, since this is your first recording, we ask that you send in a 1-minute test recording. This is not an audition, it's just to make sure the sound quality and the recording settings are all right - often things can be improved at the outset that are difficult to fix later. Please go to https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test to find out what to record for your 1-minute test, and how to upload the recording. In the LibriVox Uploader, please select 'tests - tests' from the MC drop-down, and then post your test recording in the Listeners Wanted forum, rather than in this thread - you'll get feedback more quickly there.

Thanks, and have fun!
Maria

By the way, should I record the preface as well before chapter one?

Hi,

No, I decided to leave it off of this project as it didn't add much to the text. :-)

Can I have 9-12, please? Feel free to PM me if you ever need anyone to read a biography of a saint. I really enjoy them!
If she's passin' back this way
I'm not that hard to find
Tell her she can look me up
If she's got the time

All yours, Tatiana ~ thank you!

I always try to have a saint book going as a group project. I'll try to remember to let you know when the next one goes up. Usually when one gets filled. :-)

Flipped through the book at random and it seemed like chapter 11 was as good a place to start as any. 9:06
