Hi!

Section 1 has one small correction, around 14:34 there’s a little stumble and you say “correction” and restart the phrase.

Otherwise great!

Is it me or does Mr Cresswell seem a little full of himself? I get the feeling that there’s something he was having to skip town for, part of why his parents were so weird about it? Maybe he knocked up an unsuitable local girl or something..,

Sorry about that slip !

Here is revised section 1

https://librivox.org/uploads/kazbek/journal_01_cresswell_128kb.mp3

duration now 19.56.

Yes , there is certainly something murky in his past ! I wonder if it will be revealed as we get further inot the journal.

May I claim some more sections please ? Say 6 and 7 ?

Cheers

Mongahaley
Saweekly
Yaughagany
Conhanway
Shawannee

The Web is singularly bereft of useful information !

Disclaimer: I'm not in any way knowledgeble about the Native American-derived names. In fact English is not even my first laguage.

Having said that, I'd say go with whatever you feel the name should be pronounced according to your English-speaking eyes/ears based on the spelling presented in the text. I think the names like these were usually written down in English using the spelling familiar to English-speakers.
For example, here's a wikipedia article about the Monongahela River, which I'm assuming has something to do with the place you mentioned given they are both in Virginia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monongahela_River See the beginning of the article for the phonetic spelling of the name. I'd say use the same method with the remaining names as well and you'll at least be in the ballpark :)

Hi,

These are largely Algonquin-derived names and I grew up in the area of the US where a lot of places have names from Algonquin original names (part of my family hails from the Philadelphia suburbs of Manayunk and Conshohocken, for example)

You can pretty much pronounce them as you read them - he was likely doing phonetic spellings himself. I'd say :

mon-gah-HAIL-ee
sa-WEEK-ly
YAW-ga-gain-ee
con-HAN-way
shah-WAN-nee

Hope that helps!
