Section 4 is ready to be checked. I accidentally uploaded it to the wrong MC first time around (sorry Kazbek! ) but it's now in it's correct place.

May I grab sections 5 and 6? At this point I'm curious to see if the peace in France ever does hold on for more than a few days. I have my doubts...

Hello and welcome to LibriVox! :)

Since this looks like the first time you'll be assigned a section, let me know under what name (real or nickname) you would like to be credited in the catalog. We can also include a link to your personal website or blog, if you have one.

Also, please complete a 1-Minute Test before you record your first contribution. Its purpose is to ensure that your recording software and hardware is set up in accordance with LibriVox technical standards, so that you get a chance to adjust your setup without having to redo a longer recording. The instructions can be found on this wiki page:

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

In the meantime, I'll pencil in your claim in the Notes column of the Magic Window.

Thanks,
Michael

Thanks for your patience. Here are my PL notes for the first page of the section.

(0:38) I hear "represent" instead of "represented"
(0:47) I hear "Pope" instead of "Popes"
(0:49) I hear something like "Judists" instead of "Jesuits"
(1:03) missing: "(1560)"
(1:05) I hear "Hansburg" instead of "Augsburg"
(1:09) I hear "authoritive" instead of "authoritative"
(1:12) extraneous syllable between "whether" and "proceeding"
(1:26) missing "that" after "laid down"
(1:47) I hear "pariety" instead of "of parity"
(2:03) missing "for" before "their apprehension"
(2:07) I hear "in their demise" instead of "to their disadvantage"
(2:25) the pause after "which" is too long for a mid-sentence pause
(2:42) I hear "momentarily" instead of "summarily"

While we aren't strict about pronunciation, we do expect the text to be read as is, without changing, adding or omitting any words or syllables in a way that would affect its meaning or interfere with comprehension. These are examples of things that would need to be changed before the section can be accepted. I stopped after the first page, because PL notes for the entire section would probably be about 10 times longer, and not particularly useful in their entirety.

Normally, we ask readers to address PL notes by editing their existing recording, but in this case, it will probably be easier for you to do a new reading. If you're willing to do that, paying attention to the issues pointed out in these PL notes, that would be great. If you would rather not read this section in light of this feedback, that's OK too. I would appreciate if you let me know your decision.

Thanks,
Michael

I see Section 4 is "Ready for PL" but not claimed. May I do the honors?

Thanks for PLing, Tracie!

Ruth, aside from these notes, the volume is way high and there's clipping throughout. :( Luckily, the volume of sections 34 and 35 is fine, but something unusual must have happened to this section. Please de-amplify it by 12 dB. You wouldn't happen to have a version of this recording without the clipping?

Sorry I don’t know what’s happened regarding the clipping - maybe I submitted a version I hadn’t finished editing by mistake - when I get opportunity I will look on my laptop to try and work out what I have done!

Thanks! To be sure that the term "clipping" is clear: this is what happens when the volume peaks beyond what the software can handle, so that the soundwave looks clipped and the voice sounds distorted.

8:40 amity I hear "amnity"
8:42 Puritanism I hear "Puritism"
26:34 spread I hear "speed"

Bear in mind that English is not my first language so I may have misinterpreted some things.
