Welcome to LibriVox and thanks for volunteering! :) I'm happy to hear that you're willing to take on this entire chapter, but I'm not sure if you're aware of the amount of effort it is likely to take. The finished recording will probably be around 2 hours along, and for most readers that would take 6 to 10 hours of recording and editing. I recommend that you start with part 1 to get an idea of the process, and if, after finishing it, you think that you're willing and able to complete the rest within our usual 2-month deadline, you're welcome to claim the other 3 sections. :)

Since this is the first time you'll be assigned a section, let me know under what name (real or nickname) you would like to be credited in the catalog. We can also include a link to your personal website or blog, if you have one.

Also, please complete a 1-Minute Test before you record your first contribution. Its purpose is to ensure that your recording software and hardware is set up in accordance with LibriVox technical standards, so that you get a chance to adjust your setup without having to redo a longer recording. The instructions can be found on this wiki page:

https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

Thanks,
Michael

PL note:

Many thanks for the update, Ruth! I recommend you to please see if there is anything you could still polish at 36:22 (or 36:21) for the pronunciation of "forfeited".
38:51 is perfect. So we are almost there for a perfect section 34.

Regards,
Jessie

I listened to this 43:40 recording of Section 34, thanks to the previous PL by Piotrek81.

36:21 I did not hear the word "fortified" changed in the sentence "he voluntarily forfeited (not "fortified") to his rivals ..."

38:51 Please redo the change as the sound added was not clear and smooth enough.

around 36:20 forfeited I hear "fortified"
around 38:50 prognostications I hear "prognostinations"

Many thanks to both the reading by RuthP and the PL-ing by Piotrek81!

Regards,
Jessie

PL note:

I listened to this 45:58 recording for section 56. It is PL OK. Many thanks for the nice reading!

To my ears, the noise and popping thing are both acceptable, though I definitely need to learn more about CHECKER and all these tech norms.
I do recommend Johnathan to please update the link by having that "various" part in the file name, though I frankly don't know what it is for. It seems to be the norm of a file name. :)

Regards,
Jessie

Section 56 has been uploaded the link is

https://librivox.org/uploads/leni/cambridgemodernhistory3_56_128kb.mp3

Timing is 45:59

Replay gain was applied so hopefully the level is adequate. My popping Ps remain a popping problem.

PL note:

feedback on this 28:36 recording of section 68:
8:22 I heard "under" where the text is "Until" in the sentence "Until the fall of Calais ..."
12:56 I heard "closely" where the text is "strongly" in the sentence "Corbie and Pecquigny were strongly occupied"
17:54-55 repeated "The cool" in "The cool reception given by Elizebath to his proposals ..."
21:40 - 21:46 if you please add the years that appear in the parentheses in the sentence "... the Declaration of Saint-Cloud (1589), the Edict of Mantes (1591), the Articles of Mantes (1593), and the Edict of St Germain (1594)."

Many thanks for your very nice reading!

Jessie

PL note:

feedback on the 38:06 recording for Section-54:

22:53 If you please add "(N.S.)" in the sentence "On January 2, 1602 (N.S.), the decisive battle was fought."
I don't know how it is supposed to be read; Wikipedia says this about it -
"Old Style (O.S.) and New Style (N.S.) indicate a dating system from before and after a calendar change, respectively. Usually, this is the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar as enacted in various European countries between 1582 and the twentieth century."

The rest of your reading is perfect, as always.

Jessie

Good grief! As many times as I listened to this, I didn't catch that - and it's the very first word! It couldn't have been more loud and clear.

There's no need to re-upload the file just to correct the filename. I've made a note about it in the MW, and the file can be easily renamed during the cataloging process.

That was an impressive PLing marathon, Jessie!

If she's passin' back this way
I'm not that hard to find
Tell her she can look me up
If she's got the time
