The Old Church Clock, by Richard Parkinson (1797 - 1858)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-old-church-clock-by-richard-parkinson/

A fictional "history" of Robert Walker, a dedicated clergyman in the English Lake District, this work, which started as a short magazine 'tale', examines how the lower echelons of the church produces dedicated, religious men, while those who head the church are self-serving and power hungry.

I can take a few chapters if they're still open. How about Chapters 1, 2, and 3?

Thanks!

I can do chapters 4 and 5

This is my first time contributing, so when recording, is it preferred that I read dialogue in my normal voice, or create voices for the characters? Or would that boil down to my own personal preference/abilities?

I will assign those to you. Please be sure to read the first post.

As for accents/ voices it is largely up to the reader. But it is important to bear in mind that you should be consistent, which can be difficult, and also in a group project, different readers will approach the same characters differently. When I am reading, unless there are directions in the text (e.g. “ he said gruffly”), I avoid voices except I make male voices a bit lower, female voices in my normal voice and children’s voices higher. At least I think I do... people listening might not be able to tell the difference  accents are difficult. Unless you are expert, you may end up offending people :(

All good points, especially the last part about potentially offending people, haha. I think I'll refrain from doing full accents then and just do subtle changes to pitch/cadence. Thank you! :)
