The Heart of a Dog, by Albert Payson Terhune (1872 - 1942)
A charming tale about the friendship between a boy and his faithful collie. But is he a soft teddy bear or a ferocious guard dog?

I have assigned those sections.
You will discover what works best for you as you gain experience... it is different for everyone.
But this will get you started:

1. Eliminate all extraneous noises... wait until the person upstairs finishes vacuuming, or the neighbor finishes drum practice (an issue I had at our last house  ), etc.
2. Keep your mouth moist... I keep a glass of water beside me, some recommend tea; chapstick also helps eliminate mouth pops.
3. Be sure to read the disclaimer at the beginning. This is a legal requirement.
4. When you misread something (we all do it), don’t stop the recording, but go back and reread the sentence.
5. Try recording in one session. If you have to stop e.g. to answer the door, pause the recording rather than stop it.
6. Edit! It’s the reader’s responsibility to get the recording to close to publication- ready as possible. So go back and cut out those flubs and stumbles.
7. Run noise cleaning.
8. Save the file as stated in the first post and upload it.

Any specific issues, feel free to ask. Apart from that, wait and see if there are PL notes and we can address them at the time.

Request to claim section 3 and 4 ('The Coming of Lad Part 1', and 'The Coming of Lad Part 2')

Name: Andrew Sproule

Question: In the text, I see Chapter TWO, The Coming of Lad. I don't see "Part 1" or "Part 2". I will read the full section, assuming this covers both parts? Please advise if I'm missing something.

Hi Lynnet,

Here is my first recording, edited and passed by checker app, of Chapter 2: The Coming of Lad (which I believe encompasses section 3 and 4).

Recorded by: AndrewSproule

Please advise.

Note: I realize I didn't get the official permission of "assigned". I had time to kill so I went ahead and recorded and edited, but if for any reason this had been taken by someone else, I understand.

Thanks!
Andrew

Thanks so much for the advice Lynnet, it was super helpful. Here is my recording for section 1. Hopefully it sounds good and works well, but let me know if there is anything I need to fix, and I will keep working on the second half of the chapter (section 2).

Again, Thanks so much for your help!

 That often happens, and as long as you understand the risk, I have no problems with it. I notice you have not followed the desired file naming protocol. Wait to see if there are edits needed, but please be more careful in future.

In answer to your question about the parts... we don’t like recordings over about an hour (which is 8,000-9,000 words, depending on the speed of the reader). It’s not a hard rule (it used to be)... but I ask readers to divide their chapters fairly evenly, according to where makes sense.

Section 3
Some of the pauses are too long. 2-3 seconds is about right.
Please change the outro to "end of section 3"
Please cut the end silence to 5 seconds.
When you upload the corrected file, please use the file name heartofadog_03_terhune_128kb.mp3

Here is sections 2
https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/heartofadog_02_terhune_128kb.mp3
The file duration is 33:25
Again, let me know if any improvements are needed :D
Also I am not sure if it is allowed, but I would love to read another chapter if it is okay to do more than one in a project. If it is allowed could I claim the Afterword (sections 19)?

I have signed you up for section 19. It is absolutely allowed  You need to check the first post of any project you sign up for to see if there are restrictions. The default is none, but sometimes the BC (Book Coordinator) changes that.
