The Forest Lovers by Maurice Henry Hewlett (1861 - 1923).

My story will take you into times and spaces alike rude and uncivil. Blood will be spilt, virgins suffer distresses; the horn will sound through woodland glades; dogs, wolves, deer, and men, Beauty and the Beasts, will tumble each other, seeking life or death with their proper tools. There should be mad work, not devoid of entertainment. When you read the word Explicit, if you have laboured so far, you will know something of Morgraunt Forest and the Countess Isabel; the Abbot of Holy Thorn will have postured and schemed (with you behind the arras); you will have wandered with Isoult and will know why she was called La Desirous, with Prosper le Gai, and will understand how a man may fall in love with his own wife. Finally, of Galors and his affairs, of the great difference there may be between a Christian and the brutes, of love and hate, grudging and open humour, faith and works, cloisters and thoughts uncloistered—all in the green wood—you will know as much as I do if you have cared to follow the argument. ( Maurice Hewlett)

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8934
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

They are yours, Grace.
It really is a fun story and has such a great title. They say that this book was the one that sold well enough that Hewlett could quit his day job.
Thanks!
-Amy :)

I love the sense of humor behind the Robin Hood-like story. I first read the title as meaning that it was about lovers of the forest, but now am more inclined to record it as meaning lovers in the forest.

I came across a few questions:

Intro/Outro: Shall we specify "Chapter #" or just "#"? such as "Chapter 1" or "1"?

Chapter one: "It as far, it was deep, it was dark as night" I think that "It as far" should be "It was far". Can I read it that way, or must I read "It as far..."

Thanks for clarifying this...

Hi Grace,
Chapter # please.
It must be a typo. You're right it should be "it was far."
Thanks,
-Amy

Thanks Amy.

You might want to edit the script in the listing from "The Forest Lovers, by Maurice Henry Hewlett. [Chapter]" and "End of [Chapter]" to make sure that other readers notice this.
