Hi Michael,
I signed you up for the section. I strongly recommend you submit a one-minute test in the Listeners Forum to check your tech specs before you put in the work on a recording.
Thanks,
Amy

Jim, your accuracy remains excellent and in this section your pace and smoothness are much improved!Jddykst wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 7:36 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/enquiry2_46_godwin_128kb.mp3

Whatever you're doing, the results are good and noticeable.Jddykst wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 6:01 am Thanks for the helpful feedback. After doing this for the past year or two, I've found out just how difficult it is, and I admire people who can do it well.
I know I have a tendency to be a little sing-song, with longer pauses between sentences and phrases. I try to edit those pauses out. Also, I've learned to increase the tempo by 3-4%, and I think that helps.
Thanks for your criticism, William. It hits me in the ego hard, because the pronunciation of "vehemently" is something I was once corrected by a friend for. I thought the stress was on the second syllable. Obviously I was not sufficiently corrected. I have reuploaded with the long E. As for the unnatural uniformity, I have only used Amplify to crop the DB down.williamjones wrote: ↑April 25th, 2021, 7:16 amSection 28 PL notes: PL OKArden wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 6:42 pm 28 up at 12:18. 2:16 heard "It is vah-ha-mently suspected"
s/b "It is vee-heh-mently suspected"
When I looked at the wave form of this file, I saw there was an unnatural uniformity in the top and bottom of the envelope. I thought that maybe you had found a Librivox Effect that produced this. Did you?
Then, when I started PLing, I noticed a complete lack of emphasis and vocal modulation in each and every sentence. It was very mechanical and very much like computer-generated speech. That "error" I noted above at 2:16 is very much like what a text-to-speech program would produce.
As Leonard Bernstein said of a young pianist: "He found all the right notes, but missed the music." This file has all the right words...
I am going to give this a PL OK solely on the basis of all the words being present. However, I hope you'll return to the more human style of your earlier recordings.

The difference is unmistakable. #29 looks and sounds like machine-generated audio and #17 shows the normal expressive variations of human speech. You cannot look at these two files that you, yourself, uploaded, and not see what I'm talking about. It's a mystery to me. I hope you can tell me what happened between Feb. and April to incur these changes.
Thanks, Arden!Arden wrote: ↑May 3rd, 2021, 8:49 pm 37 up at 14:23. Thanks!
