Thanks, Kym - that's a super reading. There's one small change to make and one thing to be aware of going foward.

The thing to change is to trim the silence at the beginning - there should only be between half a second and a second of silence before you start though there should be five seconds at the end. If you could remove the first four seconds of the audio and re-upload it with the same name, that would be great. Again, post in this thread when that's done and I'll do a spot check.

The thing to be careful of is the loudness of the recording - it's on the quiet side, but just within the permissable range. You need to be careful not to go any quieter. If you're using Audacity, you can use the ReplayGain plugin to keep track of loudness (drop me a PM if you need instructions on that).

Great reading - section 8 is PL OK . Apologies again for the confusion over the Thief's Tale, but thanks for picking it up.

For future sections, note that "End of Section n" is sufficient to close with - you don't need the section title.
BrizeCrize wrote: November 30th, 2020, 3:46 pm I would also like to sign up for section 25, The One Hundred and Ninety Eighth Night.
It's yours.

I have recorded section 18.
Here is the link:
https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/thousandnightsandanight12_18_anonymous_128kb.mp3

The file duration is 17:45.
Thank you! It's a great reading!

One small thing - we want to finish each file with about five seconds of silence. Could I ask you to copy/paste this to the end of the file and re-upload it please?

Cheers,
Paul
Hi,

I have added five seconds of silence to the recording now.
The file length is now 17:51. :)

Hi Paul -

Here are some of my recordings -

https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/thousandnightsandanight12_11_anonymous_128kb.mp3 - 7:34
https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/thousandnightsandanight12_12_anonymous_128kb.mp3 - 3:09
https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/thousandnightsandanight12_13_anonymous_128kb.mp3 - 3:32
https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/thousandnightsandanight12_16_anonymous_128kb.mp3 - 2:41

Sorry for the delay - I had to travel to deal with a death in the USA (I live in Canada) and I just got behind in my recordings.

The rest will be done shortly.

You'd be very welcome to, but before you record your first passage we like you to record a test piece first. This isn't an audition so much as to check that you can produce a file that meets LibriVox's technical specifications. Details are here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test

You're also not on the picklist of readers yet. Let me know how you'd like your name to appear in the catalogue and I'll pop you on there and provisionally reserve section 43 pending your 1-minute test.

Paul

Thank you for that - you've got a lovely, clear voice and I'm looking forward to hearing you read.

I'm afraid there are a few things that still need to be ironed out in the recording process, however. The first is that files need to be uploaded as mono files rather than stereo. You can either record the original file in mono or convert the recorded stereo to mono as you prefer, but it needs to be a mono recording.

The file is too quiet and needs amplifying by 8.5dB. If you're using Audacity, you can test the loudness with Replaygain and if you're using Adobe Audition you can use EBU R128 - I'm afraid those are the only two audio editors I know so can't tell you how to do it on others.

The filename is incorrect - fortunately nobody else uploaded another one with the same name as yours so I still got to hear it, but the 1-minute test page suggests a filename of test_yourforumname.mp3 so in your case should be test_rperrone051.mp3 .

Please use the test text on the wiki page - that's not random text but includes a lot of the trouble sounds such as "p" "th" and "-s" that'll give your audio equipment a good workout.

Please also post about your test (when you've sorted the points above) to this forum: viewforum.php?f=21 - that's better than doing it here because (a) when you read a different book people will know where to check for your test and (b) there are a lot of people there who are better at explaining audio issues than I am. That said, feel free to post here as well if you want me to take a look.

Don't be discouraged though! These are small points and easily dealt with. More importantly, you're a clear reader and I hope you'll enjoy reading with Librivox.

Super. You now have your own reader page at https://librivox.org/reader/15406 and I've allocated section 43 to you.
