The Castle of Twilight by Margaret Horton Potter (1881 - 1911).

"Wistfully I deliver up to you my simple story, knowing that the first suggestion of “historical novel” will bring before you an image of dreary woodenness and unceasing carnage. Yet if you will have the graciousness but to unlock my castle door you will find within only two or three quiet folk who will distress you with no battles nor strange oaths. Even in the days of rival Princes and never-ending wars there dwelt still a few who took no part in the moil of life, but lived with gentle pleasures and unvoiced sorrows, somewhat as you and I; wherefore, I pray you, cross the moat. The drawbridge is down for you, and will not be raised, if, after introduction to the Chatelaine, you desire speedily to retreat."
( Margaret Horton Potter)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/62669
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Hi! My name is Swathi, and I'm a new volunteer for LibriVox. I'd like to start with the first two chapters of this book (Chapter 1 & 2). I would like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue as Swathi. Thank you so much!

Hi and welcome to Librivox!
There are a few things to do before you get started.
You will need to complete a one minute test - this is to check your specs are up to Librivox standards, and if not, you'll be given hints on how to remedy that. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test
Please post your test in the Listeners Wanted forum (see the dropdown at the bottom of the page) for the speediest response. Waiting for the OK may seem tedious, but can save time in the long run.
You will also need to be added to the catalog of readers. We can also link to a personal blog or website. Be sure to read the first post - all the info you need is there, but if anything doesn't make sense, just ask. The wiki (see the top of the page) has bundles of info too.

Welcome! Please wait until you get the oK on your test to begin recording. The test is to check for technical issues, and you don't want to have to re-record because your file fails

Ch 3 PL OK

Please be sure to include the leading 0 in file names (_03_)
There is a lot of echo... it sounds as if you are recording in an empty room. Not everyone can have a designated recording studio, so the inclusion of soft furnishings (curtains, quilts, towels etc) in your environment can help absorb echo. No need to worry about it for this recording... just bear it in mind for the future.

Hi Lynnet - I have uploaded chapter 4. I recorded in a different room in hopes of losing the echo, hoping this one sounds better.

Thanks,

Section 4
The echo has gone

However:

The volume is very low at 75.7dB (we look for about 89). You will be unable to amplify enough without getting rid of the peak at about 19:00. I suggest you reduce that considerably then amplify the whole file. You can check your volume using our Checker program https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker

There are a number of mic bumps. No need to do anything here, but try to eliminate them in future.
