Let me know if you'd like me to continue on.

Mark, the reading of chapter 4 is excellent as always. We do have an issue with the volume, which the Checker indicates is at 92.2, over the acceptable range. If you could dial it down a bit, somewhere in the range of 89-90, then we'll be good to go.

I'm not familiar with the checker you mentioned. Is that a tool here on the site we can use?
I can re-engineer the recording if it helps.

Volume needs to be somewhere between 86-92, although a mid range, about 90, would be ideal. You can check your volume using the Volume Checker (see Newbie's Guide to Recording on Librivox's home page – link: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording).

Adjustments to volume can be made 2 ways: Using the Audacity program, you can highlight the passage (or entire text) you want to amplify, click on Effects (at the top) and choose Amplify. Experiment with that a bit and you'll find the right volume. You could try it with a sample text first. The second option to adjusting volume is also within Audacity, but on the left side. You'll see a mute button on the left, and under that, a sliding scale. Highlight your text and click on that box. Again, you can check your volume with the Checker until you get it where you want it to be.

Sorry, I still don't understand what I'm looking for here. I've used Audacity for years before joining Librivox for my voiceover work, and I've always relied on the Normalize tool to adjust and monitor the levels, with good results. Looking at the latest project, the levels are mostly within the -0.5 - 0.5 dB range, which the guide asks for. I just ran a section through the Leveller and it made it waaaay overblown and loud (on any setting). When you say "you can check your volume using the Volume Checker" what is that exactly? In your earlier post you said "... which the Checker indicates is at 92.2" Where can I find the meter that shows this kind of reading? The guide makes no mention of it that I can see. Is this a separate tool to use? I'm keen to give it a try.

This is a long way of saying I'm not sure what it is I have to fix.

This tool was written specifically for LV by the husband of one of our admins. It is free, easy and safe  We look for 89dB, but 86-92 is usually acceptable. The tool also checks other specs.
