CamDavis wrote: May 22nd, 2020, 9:37 am Hello! I am a new reader and wish to take on Section 2.
Thanks!
hi camdavis,

welcome to librivox and welcome to essays on art :-D

thank you for your interest!

i will assign section 2 to you - but before you record: please do a 1 minute test!
that (most probably) will help you with our uploading process and to meet our technical requirements!

further informations, links to videotutorials and so on here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

until you get the ok, please tell me the name you want to pulish in the catalogue (and mention in the recordings, if you wish so):
- every reader gets a catalogue page.
- your catalogue name can be an alias, your forum name or your real name (or something else) (if you want to read a name in the recordings, it should be the catalogue name)
- it even offers some additional functionalities (for yourself, as a reader) and an overview over your claims, eg.
- we can publish a link to a homepage or a blog, if existing and you wish so

--> please tell me your name in the catalogue (with punctuation) and the link

thank you camdavis, i'm looking forward to your test pl ok and your recording :-)
cheers

Section 9 PL notes:

Elena, what a beautiful reading! You sound like a professional. I have just two proof-listening notes for you. There is a repeat at 05:58 ("as neither the subject nor the grouping could be agree . . . agreed upon"). Also, 5 seconds of silence at the end of the recording will suffice; currently, there are 7.

Please make the above changes to the recording, then reupload using the same file name. Post in this thread when you have uploaded the edited file. Thank you.
Here is the edited file with notes implemented: https://librivox.org/uploads/alg1001/essaysonart_09_goethe_128kb.mp3
Thanks, Elena! PL OK.
thx amy, elena and cadastra :D

thank you elena!
i will enter the data asap!
but a hint: please always post the duration of the recording with the link, wether new or old.
we have blind bc, handicapped and so on and they may or may not have difficulties to look it up.
it is one of our rules, which developed out of a kind of etiquette...
(no harm done this time, but more or less every bc will mention this!)

andonceagain: thx for your recording! :D

Section 10 PL notes:
Too much silence at end; 5 seconds will suffice (currently 11.4 seconds)
Volume is too high, 87-91 dB acceptable (currently 95.3 dB) - you'll need to de-amplify the file by -6.3 using Effect > Amplify in Audacity

Section 11 PL notes:
Missing "End of Section 11" at end
Too much silence at end; 5 seconds will suffice (currently 7.4 seconds)
Volume OK

Once you have made the above changes, re-upload using the same file names. Post in this thread when you have uploaded the edited files and include the new file durations. Wonderful reading, Elena!

So... I seem to be having a problem with the checker.

As it says in the directions, I am to record in mono, but it is to be heard in both ears. I am using ProTools, and it says I am recording in mono, and it is exporting in both ears, so I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.

Can you help?

So... I did some more checking, and it is recording in mono, but exporting in stereo. And I have no idea how to change that. Or where to change that.

Sorry about this...

Sorry, recording in mono, outputting in stereo. Isn’t that what we want?

i'm sorry, it is the contrary of what we need :-)

as i understand and know it (and that may be wrong) stereo enables one to have different voices or sounds at the same time, which causes a more relaistic and "3 dimensional" sound effect for the listener.

mono is a cd audio standard which is needed by archive.org, also.
and it will play (the same) through both speakers of a headset.

what we need is mono - and i trust checkers feedback!

regarding your use of pro-tools, i suggest posting in the "need help" subforum.
i never used it and googled some texts and videos, which you may know, already..?

eg this vid, which suggests splitting the stereo into two mono files and deleting one of them:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCeu4leS0AQ

or this tutorial which seems to explain options while saving/exporting your file to mp3:
