Hello Dani,
Thank you for reading this story. You’ve done a great job. The volume however is much too low at 72.2dB. We aim at 89dB with an acceptable range of 86-92dB. You’ll likely want to change your input volume for future recordings.

Take a look at your waves on the one-minute test (if you don’t have a copy you can download it from your test thread). You’ll see that most of the waves are between 0.5 and -0.5 in audacity (indicators on the left of the screen). When you review the waves on this file, you’ll see that a lot of the waves are far below these indicators. When you do voices, you’ll notice larger volume spikes. This is fairly typical when reading voices. For future recordings you might find that by leaning back slightly when you record voices you can even this out. The variance may also have to do with your mic position. To test this, place a finger in front of the mic. Speak. If you can feel your breath then move the mic slightly to the side. That works for most of us.

With the spikes in the volume you won’t be able to do a straight amplification. I’ve included a video on the compressor effect. You’ll likely have to repeat the process a couple of times.

We have an easy little program which allows you to check your volume yourself. It’s named ‘the checker’ and I’ve included a link to that program as well.

Okay, thank you for the feedback and I appreciate the tips and links regarding volume control when reading and in Audacity. I guess when I played with Noise Reduction -to reduce the hissing background sound in the silence between words, I messed up that volume requirements. I will make the adjustments to the volume and then should I repost the link?

Okay - here is my second recording for section 24
time is now 25:52 . I hope this one meets the volume requirements. The wave form looks okay to me, but I am a very new student to learning Audacity so please let me know if I need to revise again. thanks!

I’m slightly confused. Did you record the entire section over again?

This is such a lovely reading for such a touching story. :9:

Only corrections needed are with the silences.
Opening silence should be between 0.5-1.0 seconds. The ending silence should be 5 seconds.
