maybe you had some higher spikes, where the volume was too loud in some parts. This will prevent the amplification because those spikes would get clipped, which might distort the sound.
What you could do is localize the spikes and decrease the volume there manually, by highlighting only the spike. After all those loud words are decreased, the uniform amplification would have worked.
If you encounter this problem again, please ask first before re-recording. Someone is always able to help there
and you don't have to re-record except for very rare occasions.
