State of the Union Addresses by United States Presidents (1877-1884) by Various.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/state-of-the-union-addresses-by-united-states-presidents-1877-1884/
The State of the Union address is a speech presented by the President of the United States to a joint session of the United States Congress, typically delivered annually. The address not only reports on the condition of the nation but also allows the President to outline his legislative agenda (for which he needs the cooperation of Congress) and national priorities. This album contains recordings of addresses from Rutherford B. Hayes and Chester A. Arthur. (Wikipedia)
This is the 10th out of 27 projects. Prior addresses are found here: https://librivox.org/search?q=state%20of%20the%20union&search_form=advanced
Some stats are found here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=61256&hilit=state+of+the+union
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/5050
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: special - I'm not looking for word perfect. The language is sometimes awkward and following the text will help identify errors which the ear alone may not find. DPL is linny

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Section breakdown:
Note: If you are claiming all sections for an Address feel free to split the sections differently. Be sure to post your preferred start/stop for your DPL.

3. Rutherford B. Hayes, December 1, 1879, part 1 - 5191 words. Read through: The attention of Congress was drawn to the propriety of some general regulation by Congress of the whole subject of transmarine cables by my predecessor in his message of December 7, 1875, and I respectfully submit to your consideration the importance of Congressional action in the matter.
4. Rutherford B. Hayes, December 1, 1879, part 2 - 6444 words. Read from: The questions of grave importance with Spain growing out of the incidents of the Cuban insurrection have been for the most part happily and honorably settled.

Well they passed a law in 64
To give those who ain't got, a little more.
But it only goes so far.
'Cause the law don't change an other's mind
When all it sees at the hiring time
Is the line on the color bar

That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is

Oh no, this sounds is if it's going to be another one to make me feel badly. <sigh>

My day is booked with Ombudsman duties but I'll PL Sunday for you. Thank you for this one! It's the longest and I debated about splitting it.

31:30 repeat - I respectfully recommend that a suitable appropriation, to be immediately available, be made to enable it to continue its labors.

It's going to be interesting to see when the overall format of the address changes and if the change correlates with a dramatic increase in public debt.
