The little foresters: a story of field and woods by Clarence Hawkes (1869 - 1954).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-little-foresters-by-clarence-hawkes/

Volunteers outside the USA: Clarence Hawkes died in 1954. His/Her work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years.

The author tells about how in his youth hed walk in the countryside. The main characters of the book are the little animals which the kids observe and about which they learn. This is really cute. (Temporary Summary by Carolyn) ( ) [Carolyn did not mention that in the forest, no animal dies of old age . . . so not all the stories have happy endings.]
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    .
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    .
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    .
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/littleforesterss00hawk/
    .
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
    .
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Got Chapter 3 recorded, wanted to tackle one of the longer ones tonight but my brother decided to take a shower which creates really loud background noise  Anyways, hopefully the other two will come tomorrow!

Great Phyllis. Welcome to the project!

And your post count is low enough that I can also safely say welcome to Librivox! We are glad to have you here.

Lectora,

Welcome and we're glad you are here!

Before you get started, you will need to complete a one minute test - this is NOT an audition. It is to check your specs match up to Librivox standards (well, actually the standards of Internet Archive, where our finished projects are hosted). If there's any problem, the volunteers over there can help you sort out your computer and microphone settings. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

Please post your test in the Listeners Wanted forum (see the "board index" drop down at the bottom of the page) for the speediest response. Waiting for the OK may seem tedious, but can save time in the long run. While you are working through that, I will go ahead and hold these sections for you until you finish the one minute test.

Be sure to read the first post - all the info you need is there, but if anything doesn't make sense, just ask. Lots of friendly volunteers around here who all started somewhere and are happy to answer questions. The wiki (see the top of the page) has bundles of info too.
