The Daisy Chain, or Aspirations by Charlotte Mary Yonge (1823 - 1901).

Join the endearing May family in small-town England as each member lives through some pivotal years. How will they face the changes that shake their family to the core?

To quote the preface: "It would beg to be considered merely as what it calls itself, a Family Chronicle—a domestic record of home events, large and small, during those years of early life when the character is chiefly formed, and as an endeavour to trace the effects of those aspirations which are a part of every youthful nature."

The following cast list (including nicknames) may be helpful when first meeting the large May family. Parents: Dick and Maggie, Children: Richard (May), Margaret, Flora, Norman (June), Ethel, Harry (July), Mary, Tom (August), Blanche, Aubrey, Gertrude Margaret (Daisy)
(Summary by HannahMary)
  • This project is complete. All audio files can be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/the-daisy-chain-or-aspirations-by-charlotte-mary-yonge/

    Thanks, Todd

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3610
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I first heard this book praised as the favorite of one of Louisa May Alcott's short-story characters, and it did not disappoint me! Hopefully we can introduce many more readers to the trials and triumphs of the May family through this group recording project.

Thank you, Todd! I still need to run the chapters through a word count to fully fill it in but think I can get started today.

Would it be okay to move this to "Readers Wanted" even before I finish filling in the word counts? I have the first 20 chapters ready today and will have to wait to do the others another day. But this gives a good idea of the (long!) length of the chapters. :)

Sure, I can move it. Thought you might want to linger in Launch Pad for a DPL first? Or are you doing the DPL stuff?

Thanks, Todd

Ahh! Good point. If potential DPL's look here most, we can wait a bit.

Thanks, Todd! Is it okay that I just added YOUTH/FIC to give a better idea of the project for those glancing through the forum for now?

The Preface and Chapter one are ready for PL at 1:43 and 27:04 in duration (if we can find a DPL!)
