So her husband brought Jan, a neglected child, for her to care for. This book is about his growing up, being a favorite but still an outcast, and discovering himself. Rudyard Kipling claimed to know this novel almost by heart, and it is hoped you would like it too. Like any good children's book, it is perfect for both children and adults. ( Stav Nisser.)

AFTER recording Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The latest version of Audacity is recommended for noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide. Save files as

This is so cute! I can't believe you haven't had any takers yet. Well, I can't help myself. I'll start you off with chapter 1.
However, I want to ask about the pronunciation of Jan. With girls, of course, it's pronounced to rhyme with can, but I knew a man named Jan (from Germany, I think he was), and it was pronounced Yahn.
I'd like to use this pronunciation, but only if you agree and want to make it standard. I wouldn't want to be the only one saying "Yahn," and everyone else saying Jan to rhyme with can.
Sure thing! I'll use "Yahn," since that's the pronunciation I'm familiar with. And since the setting does seem to be somewhat Nordic. I don't know if it actually says it anywhere.
One more question: Do you want me to read the chapter headings? "THE WINDMILLER’S WIFE.—STRANGERS.—TEN SHILLINGS A WEEK.—THE LITTLE JAN." Or just say "Chapter one" and then start with the main body of the text?
