It really is. The site of Jesus' baptism is in Jordan, very near the Israeli border, with the river Jordan in between. Until relatively recently they had thought it was on the Israeli side so that side is well built with steps leading down into the water. People go to be baptised in the Jordan (or just immerse themselves), although Jesus was actually baptised in a stream off it (now almost dried up).
