The Mary Frances Cook Book by Jane Eayre Fryer (1876 - ?).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-mary-frances-cook-book-by-jane-eayre-fryer/
Another of the charming Mary Frances books, this one 'Among the Kitchen People', where young girls are encouraged to be mother's helper's in the kitchen, as Mary Frances wants nothing more than to be useful. She learns (and shares) how to make tea, toast and boiled eggs, among other things, as she enjoys adventures with her many friends, including Mantel Clock, Auntie Rolling Pin and Yellow Bowl. 1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/38215
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thank you. How long is it in mm:ss please?

I hope you didn't try and record it in one long session without any mistakes? That's nearly impossible (some chapters are 20, 30, 40 minutes long... even more!) The best way to deal with flubs is to leave the mic recording, but go back and repeat a sentence you messed up on, or didn't like the expression or whatever. Then at the end, you go back and edit out the mishaps.

Hi Lynne,
You may recall that I've made recordings for a few projects with which you've been associated. I'd like to take a break from recording, but would love the chance to do some proofreading if you think I could give it a try. Even though I've read about the general duties, I'd appreciate your guidance in getting started. This is a wonderful project that seems like a good introduction to the PL process. Let me know your thoughts, please. Thanks, Lora L.

We always need prooflisteners!
I would suggest starting with one or two sections before signing on as a DPL, just so you see if it's something you like doing. It's not for everyone.
For Standard PL (which covers most projects), just sit back and listen! No need to follow along with the text, although it's sometimes a good idea to have it handy in case you have to double check anything. You are looking for stumbles and repeats and anything that doesn't make sense. This is where PLers sometimes get confused. If the text says "He drank a cup of tea" and the reader says "He drank a cup of coffee", that is OK... it makes sense. If the reader says "He drank a cup of diamond tiara"... well, that doesn't make sense. That's when you check the text. When you note errors, it is really helpful to note the time (approximate is fine).
It is not required that PLers do a technical check, but again, it is helpful if you are able to run files through Checker... especially new readers' files (I'd say with fewer than 20 posts). If you don't use Checker, note whether you have to adjust your volume control.
Most of the time PLing is very straightforward, with maybe one or two stumbles to be corrected. Sometimes you come across more... challenging... sections. It's important to be supportive and encouraging!

If you want to start by PLing a section here, I can mark the MW. If you sign up as a DPL, you get access to the MW yourself.

Hi!
I'm a little new to Librivox.
Are the rest of the sections still open for reading? Only three chapters have been read so far?

That's right. And this is a cute little children's book -- perfect for a first recording. Just tell me which chapter you would like to read (best to start with one... you can always come back for more later if you want).

You get 2 months (sooner is better!) but if you know you will take longer... say you get sick or you have a sudden influx of houseguests... you can ask for an extension. Best to do that before the deadline runs out.

Edit: I have added you to the catalog with your forum name. If you prefer your real name, I can easily change that. If you click on your name in the Magic Window, you will be taken to your personal catalog page.

I prefer my real name, Indu Nair, if it is possible.
