The Elements of Conchology by William Ruschenberger (1807 - 1895).

The fifth of the Series of First Books of Natural History, embraces that branch of our subject which treats of the Mollusca, or soft animals, and consequently, includes the Elements of Conchology. In the beauty and singularity of their forms, the variety and brilliancy of their colors, shells only yield to flowers…. Limited as this little volume is, it may prove a key to stores of information, even more interesting to many than the numerous fictions of the day. “Truth is stranger than fiction,” has been often said; and the beautiful truths brought to us by a study of animal life, in its various forms, are certainly more admirable and wonderful than any fiction of man’s creation. ( William Ruschenberger)
This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/elements-of-conchology-by-william-ruschenberger/
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/elementsofconcho00rusc
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

My mission to get this series of Natural History textbooks by William Ruschenburger in our catalog for the world to enjoy is nearing the end. We have completed Entomology, Botany, Geology, Ornithology, Mammalogy, and Anatomy. There are two left: "Conchology", and "Herpetology and Ichthyology" (Perhaps he lumped the herps and fish together because he did not have enough on either to flesh out a whole textbook.) I decided to do Conchology first.

Let's do this. Shell-lovers, it is your time to shine!

Hi Lauren,
Great! There is no proof listener for his project yet, but I will listen soon if one does not come aboard.
Thank you for your sections!

Hi,
Section 0 has been completed already. Is there another section that appeals to you?
Amy

Hi Amy,

I think they were saying they wanted to proof listen those sections (PL).

Bhavya,
I am sorry; I thought you were asking to read them. Sections 0,1, and 2 are available to be proof listened if you would like to do it.
Thanks!
Amy
