Hi Yael - your recording is good from a spoken word standpoint. Have you done your 1 minute test already?yaelh wrote: ↑April 12th, 2018, 3:34 pm Here is section 6:

I'd be glad to have some feedback
Thanks,

The reason why I ask is that your recording did not pass from a noise standpoint - there is a lot of noise in the recording - it sounds like you are recording in an empty space with a lapel microphone as there are a lot of hisses when you pronounce certain letters leading to a fail on the noise check we do. Usually these types of things are found when the 1 minute recording process is done. I tried playing with your recording myself and you can get the noise down to an acceptable level (I use the Checker tool).
I did the following in Audacity AFTER saving your original file with a different name -
Effect - Noise Reduction - Get Noice Profile - OK
Effect - Noise Reduction - Change Noise Reduction to 10 - OK (This is a very high amount - normally I have 3 entered there).
Effect - Compressor - Set Compression to 3:1 - leave other Settings and boxes unchecked - OK
Effect - Amplify - It allowed me to Amplify at this point (amount in top box) so that is what I did - OK
Then one more time Effect - Noise Reduction - Change Noise Reduction to 10 - OK
Now save this file as billnyescordwood_06_nye_128kb.mp3 and run it through the Checker Tool which I will post the link for for you https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker. You will need to download the Checker Tool and install it on your computer. You should get a PASSED when you select your Section 6 file now instead of getting a noise warning.
EDIT - I found this information too when looking for the Checker Tool link -
text instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics
video, but with an older version of Audacity so the settings are different: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFSg9o37HMw
Let me know how it goes.

Hi Lane -
I just reviewed Sections 11 and 12 for the removal of the stereo and the addition of the time at the beginning which is now great and fixed however now both recordings are too loud
Section 11 and 12 are both 93.3 dB where they need to be within the range of (86–92 dB).
Can you please apply either Noise Reduction or enter a Negative number (such as -3 or -4) in Effects - Amplify if you are using Audacity to reduce the volume of your recordings and re-submit them please?
I think by they will will have covered off everything!

All these sections are PL okay for the reading portion - you have a great voice and these were excellent readings!
The only issue was technical with Sections 33 and 34 -
They both currently have a volume of 92.1 dB and they need to be in the target range (86–92 dB). I know this is picky but the Checker is not giving it a pass so if you can reduce the volume just a bit and resubmit these two that would be awesome!

Thanks a lot, Lynda! My grandfather recorded books for the blind for many years, so I'm trying to follow in his footsteps.
