Before I can do a full proof listening of this recording, there is one technical issue that needs to be resolved The volume is far, far too low. If you look at the wave form, you should be able to see that. I used our Checker program to get an exact readout and it measures a mere 71 dB. Our target volume is 89 dB with an acceptable range of 86-92 dB. The analysis gives a needed amplification factor of 18 db. That amount of amplification is probably not possible with out a lot of distortion. Also, when trying to do this in Audacity, it would not amplify more than 2.7 db, probably do to the spikes I am seeing on some of your plosives (initial "p" sound).

If you are a better sound engineer, maybe you can manipulate the file to get it within an acceptable range, but otherwise you may need to do a new a new recording. I'm not sure why this issue was not picked up on your preliminary one-minute test.

Regardless, the other issue is that you omitted the "outro" "End of Section One" followed by 5 seconds of silence.

The small sample of you reading otherwise sounded good.

I suggest making some adjustments to your recording set up. Probably it is a matter of adjusting the input gain of your microphone, but you may need to change the distance of your microphone, although you need to be careful of your plosives. If you keep the mic close to your mouth, you might consider using a pop filer.

I use two programs to help with the volume. One is Checker, written specifically for LibriVox, which will give you an exact reading on the volume in decibels, as well as checking for other LV specs. The other is ReplayGain which is a plugin for Audacity. Once installed, you can use it from the Analyze menu to get a reading on how much amplification is needed, up or down, to hit the target. You will find links to both of these in our New Reader Guide. There are also some good videos to help with this in our Wiki files. There is a ton of helpful material there.

If you want to record a short passage and have someone check it, we can help with that. Just don't record this long section again until you are sure you everything set correctly.

Looking forward to hearing this again.
