Yes. Hi cowguy02 and a big welcome to LibriVox! I have assigned that section to you but before you record it, please make and upload a 1 minute test to be sure your recording set up is OK. Instructions can be found in our Wiki and in the first post of this project but Here is a video that may help too: How to Make your 1 minute test.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs and then How to Upload your 1 minute test How to Upload your 1 minute test
(You may post the link to your test in this forum and I will see it much more quickly)
I also recommend Getting To Know our Forums Getting To Know Our Forums
We just want to check out your technical specs. Don't forget to post the link either in this thread or in Listeners WAnted forum. And how would you like to be credited in our catalog? What name? most of us use our real name but it is up to you.
Ask if anything is confusing (and there will be!)

Hi, could I take on 18, The Palace In The Clouds? I am new here, recently did a one minute test, and was OK'd there. This will be my first real one.

Happy to have you here. Section 18 is all yours. Do you have a preference for your catalog name? Many of us use our real names but it is up to you.mdecker142 wrote: ↑February 9th, 2018, 9:17 am Hi, could I take on 18, The Palace In The Clouds? Thanks. For catalog name, "Mike Decker" would be my preference.

I recorded chapter 18, The Palace In The Clouds. Track length is 10:58.89. Volume is 90.5 dB.

I’m on an evening shift today - I’ll try to proof listen late tonight (otherwise tomorrow).
Thanks for the chapter.

Mike, I found a false start I'd like to have you remove. At 6:55, you readmdecker142 wrote: ↑February 9th, 2018, 12:19 pm I recorded chapter 18, The Palace In The Clouds. Track length is 10:58.89. Volume is 90.5 dB.

"'If thou doist, h...If this thou doist,' he wrote"
'If thou doist, h...' needs to come out. If you're using Audacity there are some things I've learned that aren't in most of the tutorials out there.
When you want to delete a section you will click and drag on the track to highlight the bit you want to remove. Clicking Z at this point will move the start and end of your selection to a nearby zero crossing - doing that reduces the chance you'll get a tick at the edit. The space bar will play just the highlit section, but that isn't as useful as hearing what you will keep. C is the cut preview key - pressing it will play 1 second before and after your proposed edit. (I find 1 second is a bit short for my taste, so I went to Edit>>Preferences>>Playback>> and changed the before and after lengths for Cue Preview.) The cycle:
nudge the in or out point / Z / C / nudge / Z / C...
is a pretty fast way to get the edit just the way you want it. Once you are happy Ctrl-K (or Command-K on a Mac) will delete the part you want removed.
I previewed removing 'If thou doist, h...' and it's not too hard pulling that out cleanly.
---
I did find a few other false starts which might be cleaned up or left as is depending on how hard the edit would be:
at 2:54: "He...This only served" ("He" doesn't belong)
at 4:44: "And while the King stood with Na...with Nadan" ("with Na.." false start)
at 5:45: "And Nadan...Nabu Samak, the executioner" ("Nadan" doesn't belong here)
at 8:00: "'Ikkor,' he exc...said" (you started to say 'exclaimed' here, I think)
at 10:44: "Resumed his pal...his place by the king's side" ("his pal..." false start)
---
Your recording setup sounds pretty good - low background noise + your mic sounds nice and natural + I didn't hear any popping Ps or Ts + your loudest peaks come up close to the max but don't clip - all good stuff.

Thanks for the tips. I've never used audacity before, so those should be very helpful. Looking forward to giving it a try. Assuming at some point I get a better version ready, what is the uploading/naming protocol for file revisions? Use the same name and replace, or use xxx_v1, xxx_v2, etc?

You upload it with the same file name - Librivox’s software moves the older file somewhere safe.mdecker142 wrote: ↑February 10th, 2018, 7:28 am Assuming at some point I get a better version ready, what is the uploading/naming protocol for file revisions? Rich, I did all the edits suggested, it wasn't too bad. The c/nudge/z worked great. I remembered to upload the file to the correct MC folder this time. New length is 10:54:52.
