Hi Carolin,

I'd like to sign up for Section 1 if it is still available. I am a new reader, so I'll only start with one for now. Not sure if you need my "display name", but that can be Caledongirl.

Would love any beginner tips!

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to librivox!

Great that you would like to participate  I have signed you up, your personal catalog page is here https://librivox.org/reader/11962

I have no real beginners tips for you, i think you best learn by doing. We do have lots of help in the wiki if youd like to browse it http://wiki.librivox.org/ and you can always post to ask if you have any questions :) thank you!

I will pass on one tip - not really a beginner tip since I still use it after 6 years here. Remember that you are "only recording" and there is a "delete" key you can use when you edit the recording before you let anyone else hear you.

My recorded files are always at least 50% longer than my final chapter uploads - say 30 minutes long for a 20 minute final file. While reading, if I don't like the way I started a sentence, I start it over. If I don't like where I paused for breath in a sentence, I do it over. If I think I can pronounce a word better, I just do it over. If a dog barks outside or a car horn sounds in the middle of a phrase, I just do that phrase over. If I discover a "stage direction" I didn't follow - like discovering only at the end of a sentence that it says "she whispered" when I spoke it full voice - then I do it again.

All these errors never get uploaded so no one else knows. I'm not on stage - I do not have to do it right the first time and every time, I only have to do it right one time.

So relax and enjoy the story. It is a great one!

Thanks, Todd

Thanks, Todd!

That is very helpful. I come from a theatre background, so having it right the first time has always been important :) I guess recording takes a lot of the pressure off! Thank you for the encouragement.

I look forward to getting started on this fun adventure!
