Hi, Bill! You're in for section 3.

How do you want to be credited in the catalog?

Thanks, Tricia! Bill Schafer is fine for my catalog name. Have a great weekend, and God bless! By the way, if it is OK with you, I am going to try using accents when appropriate. If it sounds too hokey, please let me know and I will redo the reading without them or different as you wish-I aim to please, and comments/ criticism won't hurt my feelings, and will help my reading.

Hi, Tricia! I am REALLY enjoying this! I do have a question, though...in Chapter 2, on my page 7 (as in page 7 out of 10-I am using the straight text version, so I don't know what page you would see this on...) there is a line that says the following:

No. 2 showed how, one day in the history of man and of mutton, a sheep
was sheared, her wool washed, teased, carded, etc., and the cloth *’d
and *’d and *’d and *’d, and a coat shaped...

What the heck is *'d, and how do I say it? I tried trusty Google, and didn't get much help.

Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Bill S.

Hmm. I looked in an actual scan of the text, and it has the same thing. So it's not a mistake.

Umm... :hmm: I don't know!

I've posted over in "Need Help?" to get others' opinions - if they have any! It's here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=68246

Ok...I'm guessing it is "darned", as in a play on words for a substitute for "damned", and also what you would do to wool to repair it again and again. So he is saying

No. 2 showed how, one day in the history of man and of mutton, a sheep
was sheared, her wool washed, teased, carded, etc., and the cloth darned
and darned and darned and darned, and a coat shaped...

The play on words being the difference in meaning for darned, in this case not a cuss word...maybe?...

That probably is what it is. Someone on the Help thread said, "could it be 'darn'd and darn'd and darn'd and darn'd' but a profanity filter somewhere got upset about it?" so they surmise the same as you.

I'm OK with you saying "darned".

Thank you, Bill!

I ran it through Checker quick as a preliminary for our DPL, and it shows as being in stereo. I suggest waiting to see if the DPL has any further edits to make before fixing it, and doing all the edits at once. :)
