Flatland (Version 2) by Edwin Abbott Abbott (1838 - 1926).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/flatland-version-2-by-edwin-abbott-abbott/

This Solo has been opened up as a Group Project.
This is a satirical novel written by Edwin A. Abbott, first published in 1884. Abbott uses a two-dimensional world, with himself as the protagonist, known simply as "A Square", to deride the Victorian aristocracy and its hierarchies. But the book has retained its value throughout the years for its unique portrayal of a two-dimensional world, and how a Sphere introduces the Square to the incomprehensible possibility of a third dimension. Once the square fully understands the third dimension, he suggests to the Sphere that even a fourth, fifth, or sixth dimension could exist. But the Sphere sends the square back to his two-dimensional world, where he cannot convince anyone of the existence of a three dimensional world. ( Linda Olsen Fitak)

IMPORTANT - We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Exciting! Yes, I would love to have you as DPL!

I'm new to solo work, although I've done a bunch of recordings for various group projects. I noticed on one of the other posts here, that a DPL said that she would read the text, along with the recording. Would you be willing to check my content, as well? I'm not sure what "standard" DPL means.
No matter what, I'm happy to have you as DPL, and so much looking forward to doing this project, whether you do read the text with the recording, or not!
Thank you! :D

I'm not planning to MC this but there's a link to description of standard PLing in the first post - check it out. Reading along with the text is not standard. If I remember this does have a number of complex conceptions which you need to get right .

Thank you, Anne! Yes, I did read through those explanations, after I looked at another post. It's OK. I chose "standard" because I figured it was probably what everyone picks for that. No problem. I'm always careful with the text, and read through it myself, while listening to my own recording, to catch any words that might be missing or misplaced. I appreciate your feedback on this, because I'm just learning now how to go solo. :D

I can MC this for you, be right back with the MW.

Rather than try to explain the BC process - which being a soloist, you become your own Book Coordinator, here are the links to read through...
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_To_Become_A_Book_Coordinator

and this one to specifically work in and fill out the Magic Window...
http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/BC%27s:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

I will send you a PM with your MW username and password.

Thank you, Dave! :D

It's my first time going solo, so I didn't know that I'm the one who adds the url and time in the MW. In the future, am I supposed to add the url and time in those windows before PL OK, or after, as I'll do now?

This is going to be a fun project! I'm so glad to have you on board!

Thank you, Dave! I'll do that part before, from now on.
You will love this book! I read it in high school, for my geometry class. I was fascinated with it! Especially because ever since I was a little girl, and I first learned about numbers, I assigned each number a personality, age and gender. They all belonged to the same family, from 0 to 9, and each one had likes and dislikes. Some of them irritated the others. I made up so many stories about them! And here's what's weird: I just found out that Edwin Abbott Abbott's birthday was December 20. That's my birthday too! :D
