Is it required that I attempt to speak with a Scottish accent to be considered as a reader for this book?

Cathgrace,

I'm just another reader, so get your definitive answer from MAS; but I would like to point out that one of the main characters sometimes speaks with a broad Scotts accent and then also with an educated English accent. This difference is part of the story line and is commented upon by the characters. It comes up almost every time she speaks.

So preview the chapter you want to read and if there is no dialogue by "Babbie" then you'll avoid that situation.

Other characters that speak frequently and have no accent are the narrator (the dominie), Gavin (the little minister), and McQueen (the doctor). Look for chapters that feature them if you want to avoid the question of accents.

Just thought I'd throw out these tidbits - maybe it will help you make your decision.
