Theory of Colours by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832). Translated by Charles Eastlake (1793-1865)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/theory-of-colours-by-johann-wolfgang-von-goethe/

Quote:
Newton's observations on the optical spectrum were widely accepted but Goethe noticed the difference between the scientific explanation and the phenomena as experienced by the human eye. He did not try to explain this, but rather collected and presented data, conducting experiments on the interplay of light and dark. His work was rejected as 'unscientific' by physicists but his color wheel is still used by artists today. ( Lynne Thompson)

    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/50572
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Lynne,
This looks interesting. May I be the DPL?
Amy :)

Hi Lynne,

Great reading! After proof listening I found Section One has two little stumbles: at 12:10 "which" and at 22:58 "of a..."

I have a few questions about the rest of the book. Do you want the paragraph numbers read in the other sections? Also, I was wondering whether you wanted to have Goethe pronounced the same by everybody. If you do, maybe a pronunciation could be provided in the opening post.

Cheers!
Amy

I think the paragraph numbers should be read, as he put them in there "for easy reference" (?)
As for the name... I'm not even sure I pronounced it correctly. So of course, everyone has to pronounce it the same way as me  I suppose strictly speaking, I should have said "Wolfgang" with a 'V' sound, but I didn't. I'd hate to insist on my pronunciation of Goethe only to find a German-speaking reader, who said it correctly. That said, if someone asks, I think my way is correct.

I think your way is correct. I was just checking in case there is any variety. I am afraid I would not have gotten it right.
That is good to know about the numbers. I wanted to have all my ducks in a row before those sections start coming in.

Hello, Lynne,

I'm brand new to Librivox and this would be my first recording. May I make claim to Section 3? Something nice and easy to start with. I'll make claim to more if this goes well. And for crediting my name in the catalog, just Dylan Campbell will be fine.

Hi,

Could I take sections 2,5,6,7?

And can I clarify that yes we are reading the paragraph numbers?

Thanks,

Debs

Hi and welcome to Librivox!
There are a few things to do before you get started.
You will need to complete a one minute test - this is to check your specs are up to Librivox standards, and if not, you'll be given hints on how to remedy that. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test
Please post your test in the Listeners Wanted forum (see the dropdown at the bottom of the page) for the speediest response. Waiting for the OK may seem tedious, but can save time in the long run. Please be sure to complete this within 7 days.
I will add you to the catalog of readers. We can also link to a personal blog or website. If you click on your name in the Magic Window, you will see your own personal catalog page.
Be sure to read the first post - all the info you need is there, but if anything doesn't make sense, just ask. The wiki (see the top of the page) has bundles of info too.
Lynne

Thank you for claiming those sections. However, section 2 was claimed in the previous post, so I have assigned 5, 6 and 7 to you.
And yes, please read the paragraph numbers - although there is no need to say 'paragraph ..."
Thank you for double checking.
Lynne
