Verse by Adelaide Crapsey (1878 - 1914).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/verse-by-adelaide-crapsey/

Quote:
Adelaide Crapsey's experimental poetry included her creation of the cinquain. This recording was taken from the posthumously published and expanded 1922 edition of her verse. ( Newgatenovelist)

  1. Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/versecra00crapuoft
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  3. The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
"[Poem title], by Adelaide Crapsey, read for LibriVox dot org by [your name]".

    • At the end of the section, say:
"End of poem. This recording is in the public domain."

      START of recording (Intro):
"Section one of Verse. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
      If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
      Say:
"Verse, by Adelaide Crapsey. [poem title]"

    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of Verse, by Adelaide Crapsey. "

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.

  4. Example filename verse_##_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case)

  5. Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

To a prospective MC: the disclaimers have been edited to conform to the short poetry intros and outros.

Erin,

I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get things set up.

Can you use the full disclaimer for the first section and the regular end of book outro at the end of the last poem? I think it's a good idea for the first and last section to identify the book the poems are taken from.

MaryAnn

Thank you, MaryAnn!

No problem with the first and last disclaimers. I hadn't pre-recorded those anyway, so that makes it even easier for me!

Hi Pam,

Kicking things off with a batch of cinquains (starting on page 31):

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_04_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.37)
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_05_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.31)
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_06_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.35)
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_07_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.35)
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_08_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.32)

and a couple of others thrown in (pages 69 and 70):
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_40_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.27)
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/verse_41_crapsey_128kb.mp3 (0.38)

I know I said they were experimental, but it rather took me by surprise!

Hi Erin,

Sections 4-8 and 40 and 41 are PL OK.

Good poetry by this poet with the sad, hard life.

My best,

Pam

Hi Pam,

More cinquains: 9, 10 and 12-15, beginning on p. 36. Please feel free to let these accumulate, since they don't add up to a very long running time, if you would prefer. It's just that if I wait until I have a really big batch I'll get the info entered into the wrong line in the MW (I already did that tonight, and there are only six)!

Hi Pam,

Another bunch! I'm hitting them harder than usual because next week there will be an enforced couple of days off with the system update and Thanksgiving. Just let them sit here if you're busy preparing pumpkin pie or something, though!
