The Finding of Jasper Holt by Grace Livingston Hill (1865 - 1947).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-finding-of-jasper-holt-by-grace-livingston-hill/
Jasper Holt was a neglected child. As a consequence, he grew up to be angry and independent - generally good, but not caring what others thought of him... until he met Jean Grayson, the first truly good person he ever met. He knew she was out of reach to him due to his bad reputation. Her very existence and belief in him is motivation for him to change. ( TriciaG)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/findingjasperho00presgoog
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): special

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

No, but this was more fun. ;) And I didn't feel like vacuuming after having bundled all that brush earlier.

Chapter 2 is up - and leaves you on a cliffhanger.

(K went on an outdoor bike ride after coming home, so I didn't have to start supper until about 6:30. That gave me time to record another chapter. The vacuuming was too much work after having worked today. Ha ha!)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the cliffhanger ... or river plunger.

Let me guess, she and everyone else dies and the book is done.

You bet! Someone (perhaps you?) had sent me a message somewhere requesting this one, so I bumped it up the list. :)

Chapter 4 uploading now. Chapter 5 is recorded but not edited.

Chapters 3, 4, & 5 PL OK

Argh, I just typed a large amount and... it disappeared when one of my fingers hit something wrong!!

ANYWAY.... as I was saying..... :hmm:

No WONDER I was confused. There was a Jasper something in The Voice in the Wilderness that I just finished listening to. I kept wondering why they had changed his last name.

In Voice, the girl gets off the train in the middle of the night at what she assumes to be the station - with the train being too long for her car to get to the platform. Rather it was at a water stop in the middle of nowhere... and the train left. This Jasper and the girl "get off the train" in the middle of a wilderness. And, in both, the first house they come to feels very threatening to the girl.

Oh, funny! I guess "Jasper" was a favorite male name with GLH. :)
