The Dog Caruso and his Master: A story of Adventure in the Western Plains by R. M. Ballantyne (1825 - 1894).

Quote:
Set in the exciting North American frontier this tale of a rescued dog and its loyalty and help to its new master really underlines the old saying that a dog is a man's best friend. The book really is a story of adventure in the early Western prairies not just about the dog. It is more what it was like to hunt a buffalo and live at a time when the Indians presented a problem and also how the early settlers dealt with them. It touches on things that were new to the people at the time Ballantyne wrote it. Crusoe was won by a young lad in a shooting contest as well as a rifle. And as the boy and dog grew and rode out to see the grand prairie for the very first time we meet the different animals and great country and the reader gets to share the excitement of adventure. 1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10929
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

A big welcome to LibriVox Betty Ann and I am excited to have you as a DPL. (Dedicated Proof Listener, one who will listen to the whole book) (PL = proof listener).

Here is a link to some info about proof listening http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Guide_for_Proof-listeners

Basically you listen to the chapters as they are uploaded to see if there is anything that needs correcting, then post your comments in this thread. The reader then corrects the problems, uploads again, posts that they have done it and you spot check.
Please ask if anything is confusing at all. I would like to recommend a little video called Getting to Know Our Forums that explains some of the jargon we use here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnxpcbnEjoQ&feature=youtu.be (I made it so it won't be too perfect but will be short!)

Welcome again !!
