Freckles by Gene Stratton-Porter (1863 - 1924).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/freckles-version-2-by-gene-stratton-porter/

Freckles is a young man who has been raised since infancy in a Chicago orphanage. His one dream is to find a job, a place to belong and people who accept him despite his youth and the disability of having only one hand. He finds this place in the Limberlost Swamp, as a Limberlost guard of precious timber.

In the process, he discovers a love for the wilderness and animals he encounters every day on his rounds and a burning desire to learn about all the new birds and plants he sees on his rounds every day. He also finds and falls in love with a girl he calls the "Swamp Angel." This is the story of his plucky courage in sticking to his job in the swamp, and his adventures in learning about the natural world he finds himself in every day. He is befriended by the "Bird Woman" and with her help learns to love the Limberlost he has been hired to guard. ( Mary Anderson )
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/111
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi guys! You may already know me. I'm the annoying one with a LOT of questions. I have been wanting to try BCing for a while now. I have read the articles on the wiki but do understand I WILL have some questions for the MC. I have volunteered as a DPL and reader for some time now so I know how that works. I hope someone picks this up!

~Luke Castle

PS: I would love a DPL so the ~ was on purpose. I fell like BCing will be enough work without being the DPL as well. Thanks!

Hello Luke, I would be willing to DPL this for you if that's alright.

You should probably remove the brackets [ ] around [freckles] and [Gene Stratton Porter].

The summary is copied from the other version of this book (which I'm not sure we can use again?), so I don't know if you'll need to re-write one or not.

Thank you
Elijah

I have noticed that Chapter 4 is very long, at 9,159 words. I don't know if your planning to break it into two parts or not. It would take over an hour to complete, (depending on the reader of course), but it would probably take me an hour & 15 minutes to read.

Also, are you planning on including word counts?

Thank you
Elijah

I have gone over that. I feel like it could be choppy but you could always record in two parts then edit them together in audacity.

Alright, the MW is ready. I've entered the first couple of titles as an example of how to fill them in. Since you have done DPL'ing I'm sure you won't have any issues with the MW.

I took the "Version Two" out of the file name and the intro/outro. It will be on the catalog page with the title, but that is the only place it will need to be.

As for Chapter 4, it was done as one file in the other version, and ran a little over an hour. It should be alright as long as the reader isn't super slow. :-)

If you have any questions, let me know. Have fun!

Hi welcome to LV! I have put those sections on hold for a few until you finish your one min test. This is NOT a audition just a way to make sure your tech specs are in order and that we won’t have any issue cataloging your recordings. Here is the link Click Here

After that please let me know that you have done the test and how you want to appear in the catalog. I'll need you name or a pen name, and any web address you want added. Then I can give you those sections and we can get you started!

Again welcome to LV and the project!
