This is my first reading -- can I get two chapters to work on? Anything is fine.

Well, I usually like readers to pick their own sections, but I'll go ahead and get you started.
It is a good idea to look over the exact material you are interested in reading before putting in a request to make sure that it is something you actually want to read so there aren't any surprises. In this project there a few chapter marked with a language precaution, for instance.
Anyway, I've added you to the LibriVox catalog using your full name as given. If you prefer something different, just let me know. You can click on your name in the Magic Window to view your personal catalog page. This is where you can track all of your LV projects.
I've assigned you Section 30 Quieting a Texas Feud which is a bit shorter than some of the others, so better for you to start with. (It does have one footnote to read) See how that goes, and then you can choose another one if you would like.
Be sure to read all of the instructions in the leading post and the special notes there.
Let me know if you have any questions at all.

A follow up question: Magic Window says "check PL notes" or something to that effect. I'm not sure where to find them. Happy to fix any deficiencies. fred.fredfr wrote: ↑January 30th, 2022, 8:55 amSorry 21:47silverquill wrote: ↑January 29th, 2022, 8:48 pmThank you!fredfr wrote: ↑January 29th, 2022, 4:45 pm Ch. 27 submitted

Fred.
Congratulations on your first submitted section
I am your friendly neighborhood Proof Listener (PL) for this project. As this is your first recording, I will go a little deeper than usual with some coaching.
You did a very nice job with the reading. Good pace and nice intonation. There are, however, some technical items that need attention.
Volume first:
This track has a level of 93 decibels right now. LibriVox asks for files to fall between 86 and 92 decibels with 89 being ideal. So, 89 minus 93 equals -4.
- Open your recording.
- Push Control-A to highlight the entire track.
- In the drop-down menu for Effects, choose "Amplify"
- Type -4 in the top box (ignore the others)
- Click Enter
Secondly, you forgot to include the "outro" at the end of the file.
Also, at the beginning of the file there should be a silence of between 0.5 and 1.0 seconds and at the end, after the outro, there should be 5 seconds of silence. I heard 3.5 at the beginning and none at the end.
@ 0:32 there is a four-second gap. Gaps between sections and paragraphs should be between 1.5 and 2.0 seconds. If it is too long, the readers start to thing something is wrong.
@ 3:01 there is excessive background noise - something goes Clunk
@ 6:41 there is some repeated text "He called to … search carefully"
After you get those few items fixed, export again to MP3 using the same filename. Upload the new file and then drop a note here in the thread.
From a coaching standpoint I would like to give a couple comments. Try to keep background noise to a minimum. At several points in your recording I heard paper rustling and microphone thumps. Finally, you had some plosives in your recording. These are the popping sounds when reading "P" and "B". To eliminate them you can get a windscreen or pop filter for your microphone. At one point studios used to fashion them out of a bent coat hanger and a nylon stocking. Another method is to move your microphone away from directly in front of you. I keep mine at an angle of about 45 degrees but still pointed directly at my mouth.
While none of these items were bad enough to require editing, considering them in the future will result in your recordings sounding more polished.
I think you did a good job for your first recording and look forward to many more submissions. Please be aware that there is a learning curve and that all of us are here to help you succeed. Never be afraid to ask questions. Lastly, be aware that Librivox can be addictive There are so many interesting projects that it is easy to over-commit.
Welcome to LV!
