Here are chapters 35 and 38. Quite interesting although all I could think about as I was reading about the lazy drones was the Drones Club. Now I know where Wodehouse got his inspiration.

Greetings -

These were two uplifting chapters.

The Massacre of the Drones sounds like the name of a '50s science fiction movie.

mleigh read both of them in simple PL OK fashion.

I had no idea bees were so vicious. That chapter was brutal.

At least the author didn't drone on about it.

Greetings -

Welcome to LibriVox, EvelynL. Hope you are with us for a long time.

Chapter 14 has some concerns but, overall, was very well-read. Good speed and diction; easy to understand. No concerns at all about the actual reading part.

Three things that need attention:

The audio level comes in at 81.3 dB, considerably below our limit of 86 dB. It will need to be gently boosted.

There is a low, "airy" noise in the background of the recording.

The silence at the beginning of the recording is twice as long as it should be.

All part of the learning curve, EvelynL. :-) If you need help fixing these, just ask.

Lomond
Hi Lomond!!

Thank you so much for the feedback! It's very much appreciated. I'm still pretty new to editing in Audacity, do you have any advice on how to fix these issues in my existing recording? I'll go ahead and edit the silence out to be one second long since that's something I managed to learn last session. I know that I can fix the audio level for future recordings by turning my gain up, so I'm glad I didn't record the next section yet!

Thank you,
Evelyn
Mr. Fix-it here.

Lifting the volume is pretty simply using the 'amplify' function. Just select your entire recording and then use that effect. You'll want to amplify by 8dB, I'd say. That will put you right in the ballpark.

As for any 'hiss,' do you know how to use the 'noise reduction' effect. It's a little tricky, so I can explain it you wish.

Kevin

Hi, Kevin!!

Thank you so much for the help!! I went ahead and fixed the issues (with a bit of troubleshooting around the noise reduction feature ;)) Please let me know if the recording still has any issues, and I would be more than happy to fix them. Thank you for your patience!!

One edit needs to be made and this will be listed as PL OK:

TIME: 04:15 TEXT: "Queen cells on the comb" COMMENT: I think this is actually part of the caption for the illustration and should be omitted.
Edit has been made. Resubmitted.

Some comments on Chapters 15, 16, and 17:

I noticed that every once in a while, you leave little pauses as you read. I might suggest that as you listen to your recording after you read it trim some of those pauses down. The only one that is a freal problem in these three chapters was at the 03:45 mark of Chapter 15.

Other than that, your recordings were PL OK. I will mark Chapter 15 as PL OK after your trim that pause.

Keep 'em coming, rberenyi.

Not sure I’m using the tag user function correctly, but I was wondering how to let the BC know what name I want attributed to my recordings. Is that name stored somewhere or do I have to let every project’s BC know?

Thanks

How would you like to be known to the general public? 'rachella' is your user name for the forum, but your public name can be most anything you wish.
