Faithann - There are a few things that need fixes.

1) The overall volume is too quiet - 'Checker' measures this at 85 dB while LibriVox wants chapters in the 86-92 dB range. You should be able to amplify the entire section by 4 dB to get right in the middle of the range.

2) Your silence at the beginning is too long - it should never be more than 1 second long, so please trim about 1 second from the beginning

3) At ~8:19 there is a small blip between "and as the prince had expected" and "the refusals were very few". I think you made an edit here but got left just the beginning of a word in there. In Audacity, the icon of a magnifying glass with a + -or- View : Zoom > : Zoom In -or- Ctrl-1 will expand the horizontal time scale so you can see this blip to make it all the easier to cut out.

4) At ~11:29 there is a similar small blip.

5) At ~14:02 there is a missed edit. I hear "and holding him in his - and holding him in his".

6) At ~21:51 I hear another small blip like the ones in items 3 and 4 above.

7) At ~25:34 there is a highly garbled word: "they both ???? turned towards the assembled guests". You may need to re-record "They both then turned towards the assembled guests, and the Official Recorder, standing a little to one side, raised his voice, and said" as it is really difficult to just record one word and try to edit into a phrase unobtrusively.

8) Last(!) the closing silence is a bit too short. If you edit on another second of silence it will be the required 5 seconds long.

Your voice is very expressive; I can tell you are really into the story!

All of your edits are fine, thank you. Story 4 is now PL OK.

I'm looking forward to listening to story 13.

Story 1 gives a fine start for this book. PL OK.

A note about clipping:
At near 15:21 the words "arrived back" are so loud they reach clipping, the maximum level the digitization process allows. This makes those two words sound a bit distorted. You can easily see spots that are clipping in Audacity by turning on the View - Show Clipping (on/off) toggle. Then the bad spots are marked in bright red. If clipping happens while you are recording you will see the level meter go all the way to the end and show a warning red. This is something to be avoided in future recordings. This also happens at ~15:38 "quietly", ~17:40 "found", ~22:90 "after" and ~25:43 "as". The first case of clipping is the only one that sounds 'quite' distorted.

Fairies appear to be quite strict about the colors of ponies they take on expeditions - for example, a dappled pony might be well suited for heavy work but wouldn't fit the color scheme.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll watch out for clipping in future. And LOL to that pony color business. Fairies do seem quite particular about these things, which I hadn't known prior to reading this.

Thanks vday -

Near 0:20 you read
The Door Mat's Story. The Door Mat's Story.
Please remove one of these.

Your closing silence is a bit over 12 seconds. Please trim that down to 5 seconds.

"Checker" complains about background noise in the recording. Indeed, I measure less than 24 dB between your voice and the room rumble. You may need to look into adding noise reduction to your editing process. See: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Noise_Cleaning. If you like video tutorials see Adrian Stephens' howto at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsFkmvF-9d0. Both of these links include a warning not to overdo noise reduction, 'cuz it will damage the sound quality. 'Tis better to leave some noise in than to remove it all but end up with a voice that sounds like it's been run through a meat grinder.

Your reading of the section is fine, so you can fix up these problems with a bit of editing.

P.S. If you can get closer to the microphone while recording without getting popping on 'P' and 'T' sounds you'll be able to turn down the recording gain - reducing the background noises compared to your voice. In the video I linked to above you can see that Adrian works quite close to his microphone (but also needs a windscreen to do so).

Hi loon,

Thanks for the feedback and PL. Adrian's video was good! I'll have a play with distance from mic. Good tip!

1. One instance of the title removed
2. Silence reduced to 5s at the end
3. Noise reduction by 12dB <= let me know if this is appropriate. The voice parts still sound good to me. Otherwise I can make further edits.
