This is a great story, and so well read! (And being a Coloradan, it strikes my fancy.)
I have a couple edits we'll need you to make on the file, if you can please do those, then re-export to mp3 and upload the new version. Here's the PL Note:
Three things can be fixed: The beginning and ending silences; the volume of the first word; and Noise Reduction.
I know you're new to LibriVox, so forgive me if I give you information about editing that you're already familiar with. I was thoroughly bemused by all the new information when I started, so I share a lot now. I'm going to paste in the tutorials I have on hand so that you'll have that info, and so others can pick it up, too (it is how I learned most of what I can do now). All these instructions assume you're using the Audacity recording software. If you're using another platform, perhaps you can find similar pathways for the edits.
Open your file, and zoom the track in until you can see the tick marks for the half-seconds.
1 - Fix the beginning and ending silences.
- This is a simple fix. Just highlight however much of each one you need to clip off, and push delete. The front silence should be 1 second; end silence should be 5 seconds. (Right now they are 4 and 14)
- Now highlight the waveforms of the first word, "Horned." (Right now it looks like a thick line instead of a waveform.)
- In the drop-down menu for Effects, select Amplify
- Type an 18 in the top box, ignore the bottom box, and click OK
- Now highlight the longest portion of noisy silence available. (Your front and end silences are crystal clean, so don't use those. I would highlight the space before your final phrase, "End of . . . "
(Make SURE you don't also capture part of the words before or after this space.) - With that highlighted, in the Effects menu, select Noise Reduction
- Click "Get Noise Profile"
- Now highlight the entire track by pushing Control-A
- Open Noise Reduction again
- Use the numbers 12, 6, 3 in the three variables boxes, from top to bottom, and make sure the radio button for "Reduce" is selected at the bottom.
- Click OK.
And that will give you a most excellent recording for your Horned Toad and Giants story

Welcome to LibriVox!
Your stories are perfect for this collection, and you've read them so nicely.
Both of the stories are too low in volume for LibriVox, and both of them need to have their front and end silences fixed - but it is easy to fix both things.
For each story, Please do the following edits.
I'm only familiar with the Audacity software. If that's what you're using, here's how to fix the decibels:
- Open the recording
- Click Control-A to select the entire track
- From the Effects drop-down menu, select Amplify
- Type 8 in the top box (ignore everything else)
- Click OK
For each story, zoom in the track until you can see the half-second marks.
- Farmer and Money Lender is good at the front, but the end silence is only 1 second long. It needs to be 5 seconds, so please place the cursor at the end of the track and record 4 more seconds of silence.
- Sun, Moon, Wind has 11 seconds up front - Please highlight and delete enough silence to make this be 1 second long.
- This story's end has only 1/2 second, so please place the cursor at the end, and record enough silence there to make it be 5 seconds.
Now you can re-export each file to mp3 and upload the new files the same way you did the first time. Don't forget to post again.
If you are using a different recording program, perhaps you can find a similar method for amplifying the recordings.
These are otherwise wonderful! Thank you very much for contributing!

Hi Lynette
Sorry to hear about your cat, hope you are doing okay.
Really appreciate your instructions with the editing. I'm an amateur at this, but your explanation made things pretty simple. Only hope I've done it right.
So here are the new links for your review.

Hello LCaulkins and all!
I am new to Librivox and was hoping to upload a Polish folk tale form one of the sources listed, but I wanted to ask if you wanted these as straight reads or if we could do voices or such as if I were reading it for my kids? This will be my first recording so I've no idea if this is something Librivox encourages or would rather we didn't
Please, let me know and I will then get straight on it!
Sincerely
Dantaleon

We would be very glad to have your Polish folk tale in our collection, and yes, you are absolutely welcome to do voices. I like to do those at times, myself. (In fact, if you like doing that, you may enjoy helping out in the Dramatic Reading/Play corner of LibriVox - look on the board that is titled, Readers Wanted: Dramatic Works.)
I will need to make your Reader Page for you. What name would you like to use for that? This is what the public sees when they look at things from the audiobooks and the main Catalog. Some of us use our real name, some use our forum working name (the one you've posted with), and some make up a different nickname.
