Captain Billy's Whiz Bang, Vol. 2, No. 23, August, 1921, by W. H. Fawcett (1885 - 1940)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/captain-billys-whiz-bang-vol-2-no-23-august-1921-by-w-h-fawcett/
"Captain Billy's Whiz Bang" was an iconic magazine of American wit and humor launched by W.H. Fawcett in 1919. Each 64-page issue is packed with jokes, quips, and humorous bits of writing. Each year it grew in popularity, and Fawcett’s success lead to the formation of the well-known Fawcett Publications, which issued "Whiz Comics" and introduced Captain Marvel. The magazine was immortalized in a line in the song “Trouble” from Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man.” (Summary by Larry Wilson)

I'd love to do section 1 "Drippings from the Fawcett" --
I hadn't previously realized Captain Billy's Whiz Bang was published in Robbinsdale, MN - which my phone claims that's just a 4 hour walk from here. So local in distance but not so much in time!

Hi Larry - a pronunciation question. My section ends with the poem "A Succulent Table d'Hote" - do you want me to pronouce 'tête-à-tête' so it rhymes with 'complete' or the way online dictionaries suggest: tet-ah-tet (sounding like the pronunciation of the Vietnamese new year)?

Up to you, but I personally would go with the latter. The former just sounds weird to me and nothing in the poem rhymes, so that is not a concern.

Here we go with sections four, five, and six:

You can have my Oxford comma when you pry it from my cold, dead, and lifeless hands.
