A Dish of Orts: Chiefly Papers on the Imagination, and on Shakespeare, by George MacDonald (1824 - 1905)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/a-dish-of-orts-by-george-macdonald/
Readers of George MacDonald are used to his engaging story-telling, winsome characters, and simple theology of trust in God as Father. But this book shows a different side of MacDonald. A Dish of Orts is a varied collection of essays, mostly in the nature of literary criticism. These essays are, in MacDonald's words, "but fragmentary presentments of larger meditation." (Summary by Devorah Allen)

If you're accustomed to George MacDonald the theologian or George MacDonald the storyteller, you might enjoy meeting George MacDonald the scholar!

DPL most welcome! :D

Well, as it's been five days, and I seem to be the only person excited about this book, I guess I'll go to Readers Wanted now... All by myself...

May I read Section 10, on Browning's "Christmas Eve"? (I just read the poem for the first time and now am settling down into MacDonald's take on it...)
ETA: May I also read Section 15, A Sermon?
Back from a low-internet no-Librivox year in Georgia. Glad to be with you again.

Might I read Section 17, The Fantastic Imagination?

I am a relatively new reader as well, and new to Librivox. Any tips or suggestions (besides those on the FAQ, of course) would be most welcome!

Welcome! I am happy to sign you up for that section. It is a great essay. I read it not too long ago and really enjoyed it.

I see that you have already been pointed in the direction of the 1-minute test, so I won't repeat that here. Let me know if you need any assistance getting set up!
