Oh Happy Wednesday !
I just edited Section 78, Catharine Williams and removed the 2 seconds of silence, as suggested.

Ready for Spot PL
PL OK now.
I did just notice that there is a "ps" in the filename at "kbps". Is that something the wonderful MC could take care of.
Thanks,
M

Yes, I can fix that when I catalog.

You did a great job with the reading. You just need to shorten up the silences some.crr7735 wrote: ↑September 11th, 2021, 3:26 pm Sections 16 and 18 are posted, please review.

In 16:
Please cut about by 2.5 seconds at the start so it is between 0.5 and 1 second.
At about 7:34, the silence is rather long, I would suggest cutting by 4-5 seconds.
Please cut about 6 seconds at the end after the "end of ..."
He sounds like he had quite an interesting life riding the rails, etc.
in 18: Please cut about 0.5 seconds of silence at the start.
Thanks,
M

Here's section 10 - a really harrowing story...
Please let me know if anything needs changing, the other sections are currently in production
You did a very nice job with your reading. It is of good quality. I just have a few comments to make.
Your volume is too low. It needs to be between 86 and 92 dB. I recommend raising it between 5 and 6 dB
At 0:34, please insert "EX-SLAVE - MY FATHER WHO KNEW THE PRINCIPLE CHARACTERS TOLD ME THIS STORY YEARS AGO" after "Dave Lawson".
At 2:34, the text reads "He owned lan' 'cross", where "lan" is short for "Land" not "Ian". I can understand how you missed that as it isn't the easiest thing to catch.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
M
Heyo! Thanks for proof-listening my recording! Here's the recording with amends made - though I'm not sure how to check the volume of my recording? (Is there a way to do this inside Audacity?) I have increased the volume by a smidge, but no idea specifically by how much or what volume it is not. Hoping that it... falls into the required category anyway
https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/slavenarrativesvol11pt2_10_various_128kb.mp3
Please let me know if there is anything else that needs a bit fo tweaking!
Cheers,

I've marked this Ready for Spot PL.
For all of it's far ranging features, Audacity doesn't have one that gives a measurement of volume in decibels.
Here are two programs that I use to adjust the volume of recordings:
1. CHECKER
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker
This little program was written specifically for LibriVox, and is very easy to use.
Just drag your file to the Checker window, and it will quickly check it for all LibriVox specifications and give you a report.
One of the measurements is the volume in decibels. Use the Amplify feature under the Effect menu in Audacity to adjust the volume, by setting the value to plus or minus to bring the recording close to the LV target of 89 dB.
2. ReplayGain
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity
This article will introduce you to ReplayGain, which is a plugin specifically for Audacity. There is a link to download it and a link to a tutorial on how to use it. Once installed, it is easy to use. Depending on your version of Audacity, it will appear either in the Analyze menu or the Effects menu. ReplayGain can be selected to analyze the recording, giving a reading of how many decibels, plus or minus, that the recording is off from the target. It is then easy to use the Audacity Amplify feature to make the adjustment before exporting the file.
