You did a great job with inserting/changing the text. However, you missed deleting the new text from the end of the recording after the 5 seconds of silence.lingyan wrote: ↑September 16th, 2021, 11:09 amGotcha, thank you very much!silverquill wrote: ↑September 16th, 2021, 9:58 amThanks for the revisions.lingyan wrote: ↑September 16th, 2021, 9:29 am
Heyo! Thanks for proof-listening my recording! Here's the recording with amends made - though I'm not sure how to check the volume of my recording? (Is there a way to do this inside Audacity?) I have increased the volume by a smidge, but no idea specifically by how much or what volume it is not. Hoping that it... falls into the required category anyway

Please let me know if there is anything else that needs a bit fo tweaking!

I've marked this Ready for Spot PL.
For all of it's far ranging features, Audacity doesn't have one that gives a measurement of volume in decibels.
Here are two programs that I use to adjust the volume of recordings:
1. CHECKER
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker
This little program was written specifically for LibriVox, and is very easy to use.
Just drag your file to the Checker window, and it will quickly check it for all LibriVox specifications and give you a report.
One of the measurements is the volume in decibels. Use the Amplify feature under the Effect menu in Audacity to adjust the volume, by setting the value to plus or minus to bring the recording close to the LV target of 89 dB.
2. ReplayGain
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity
This article will introduce you to ReplayGain, which is a plugin specifically for Audacity. There is a link to download it and a link to a tutorial on how to use it. Once installed, it is easy to use. Depending on your version of Audacity, it will appear either in the Analyze menu or the Effects menu. ReplayGain can be selected to analyze the recording, giving a reading of how many decibels, plus or minus, that the recording is off from the target. It is then easy to use the Audacity Amplify feature to make the adjustment before exporting the file.
The volume is still a little too low. Larry gave you some great advice for working with Audacity and volume. Here is something that one of the Admins (TriciaG maybe?) suggested for increasing volume. These are here recommended settings for compressing from her.
Select Compressor under Effect in Audacity. Select the settings as follows:
Threshold -20 dB
Noise Floor -40 dB
Ratio 4:1
Attack time 0.10 sec
Release time 1.9 secs
Make sure the following are unchecked.
-Make-up gain for 0 dB after compressing
-Compress based on Peaks
After doing this, Amplify by about 4 dB.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
So, just delete the extra at the end and take care of the volume and resubmit.
Thanks,
M
Nice job recording. The volume is still a problem. I suggest you play around with compressore/amplify to increase the volume a few dB.lingyan wrote: ↑September 16th, 2021, 11:14 am Here's my recording for part 12, Chana Littlejohn (her name is Chana in the original text but listed in the magic window as Chan?)

The fixes to section 16 are good. However, the volume is now too high. Please amplify by about -4 dB and repost.crr7735 wrote: ↑September 17th, 2021, 9:49 pm Section 16 and 18 have been reposted. Please review.

Section 18 is PL OK. However, the volume is just barely within the acceptable range at 91.9 dB. I suggest in future you use negative amplification to bring it closer to the ideal of 89 dB.
Thanks,
M

Well read. Just a few corrections needed for the intro and ending.
at 0:09 delete "Jacob Manson"
at 0:26 delete "section 19 of"
at 0:36 please add "317 N. Haywood St. Raleigh, N.C. 86 years of age." after "jacob manson"
Please add 5 seconds of silence at end
It also sounded to me that you were saying "livrivox" instead of "librivox" in the intro, could you double check that for me?
The volume is at the high end of the acceptable. I would suggest, since you are editing this file, tat you lower it by about 3 dB.
Thanks,
M
