Here is my first attempt. Thanks.it

Kevin Waters
You did a nice job with your reading of such a grim tale. The speed of it was such that it sounded to me like you were the actual teller in the sense that it was slow and the pauses made it sound like you were thinking of where to go next. I liked that.

I have a few comments on the recording that need to be corrected to make it PL OK.

1. At about 0:04 it should be "volume 11" not "9"
2. At about 0:21 insert "Slave Narratives Volume XI, North Carolina, Part 2" after "please visit librivox.org"
3. Add about 2.5 seconds of silence at the end.

There is also a whine throughout, although it fades out at times. I tried some simple things to see if I could remove it, I couldn't. It is not something that needs to be fixed here but something to look into for future recordings. I don't know what the source might be, but Larry, our book coordinator, might have some ideas.

Anyway, all you need to fix are the three numbered items and repost and it should be good to go.

Thanks,

M

Thanks MaryAnn,

I think the issues may be with the microphone I was using. I have a new one and it seems to perform a little better. I re-recorded the narrative and believe it sounds much better and meets what you have outlined. It is a very grim story and I am glad that these stories are being told by audio.

Thank you!
Since this is a totally new recording, it will need a full PL again.
But, we appreciate your working on it.

BTW, MaryAnn is our MC (MetaCoordinator) and our DPL (Dedicated Proof Listener) is mleigh. Yours truly, the BC (Book Coordinator). Sometimes it is hard to tell who is who, but we all work together as a team.

Sound was great this time around as was the reading. You just need to remove a little over 1 second of silence at the end to get it to around 5 seconds.

Thanks,

Thank you for your interest in this project.
We do, however, request that our new readers first complete a one-minute test recording to check out all of your technical specifications and any reading issues.

New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

Among the useful information there you will find instructions for completing your test recording. Once you have the "OK" on that, post again here and you are free to record for this project. Let us know how you would like to be credited in the LibriVox catalog - real name, pseudonym or other nickname.

I recorded section #9. I would love to get some feedback on how I can improve.

As stated above, you need to do the prescribed test recording and post it to the proper forum.
This is not an audition, but to check your technical specifications so that they meet the LibriVox format and to see that you understand how to upload files to our system.

Please take the time to read through the Newbie Guide to Recording, read all the instructions in the initial post of this project. Was you have the "OK" on your test recording, post here again and then you are free to submit your recording using the LV Uploader. Then we can review your recording and give you feedback.

It really is important to follow the correct procedures here to make everything work.
And don't forget to let us know how you want to be credited in the LV catalog.
