The fixes to section 16 are good. However, the volume is now too high. Please amplify by about -4 dB and repost.

Section 18 is PL OK. However, the volume is just barely within the acceptable range at 91.9 dB. I suggest in future you use negative amplification to bring it closer to the ideal of 89 dB.

Thanks,

I agree with you about the importance of these stories. I hadn't known they existed before this project and I'm grateful to get to hear them all as DPL, even though some of them are so depressing and tragic.

You did a great job with inserting the text, however, you missed removing it from the end of the file. All that is needed is for all the recording after 8:40 to be deleted and replaced by 5 seconds of silence.

Thanks,

M

The volume on these recordings sometimes baffles me. It is now too low by over 4 dB. There are a couple of options for addressing this that I am aware of Someone else might have better answers. Everything else is good.

1. Here is something that one of the Admins (TriciaG maybe?) suggested for increasing volume. These are here recommended settings for compressing from her.

Select Compressor under Effect in Audacity. Select the settings as follows:

Threshold -20 dB
Noise Floor -40 dB
Ratio 4:1
Attack time 0.10 sec
Release time 1.9 secs

Make sure the following are unchecked.
-Make-up gain for 0 dB after compressing
-Compress based on Peaks

After doing this, Amplify by about 7 dB.

2. Select some of the peaks in the recording and do a negative amplification of them and then amplify the entire file. in this particular recording you could get away with doing this only on the word "that" at 4:19: Select that word, amplify by -5, select the whole file and amplify by 5, which should get you over 86dB.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

M

I ran both through the checker, and both passed. Please let me know I you need other fixes. Have a great night. I want to read more but let me get these two right first.

19 is all good now. :)

42 needs a couple of wording changes a some cleaning up at the end. Your reading is nice and clear and easy to understand.
At 2:20 the text reads "Bill Simpson married her sister." You have daughter.
At 3:38 the text reads "had the 69th Irish brigade". You have 96th.
At 5:02 delete "AC"
Add 5 seconds of silence at end,

He certainly had a different perspective from most of the other interviewees.

Thanks,

I'll do 9 and 15

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

I'll do 20 and 21 too. They're short and fascinating.
