Hello, Readers :)

I will be out of town with limited internet from the 24th through the 29th.

I'll pop in as I can to acknowledge incoming recordings or answer questions, but I probably won't be able to load data and links into our Magic Window.

Please be assured that recordings will be attended to quickly on the 30th. 8-)

Things were quiet in here this past week. :)

I'm off holiday, so submissions won't have any wait right now.

Lest you should think this post is going unnoticed -- I've earmarked "Vasilissa the Fair" from Russian Fairy Tales for an entry to this collection. I do have a question, though -- do we include the name of the source book at all, or just the author? My understanding from the intro post is that this would be my intro text, not mentioning "Russian Fairy Tales: A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folk-lore" at all:
Vasilissa the Fair in Myths and Legends Around the World - Collection 10. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit librivox.org.
Read by (my name). Vasilissa the Fair, by W.R.S. Ralston.
Is this correct? I haven't participated in one of these more "free-form signup" Collections before. :)

Hi, Kiadawel, welcome to LibriVox! (and to this collection)

Yes, it is quite a bit different, participating in these collections. :) You do have the intro set up correctly.

While we're not voicing the sources of the stories, MaryAnn and I make sure each recording has its source noted in the audiobook's metadata (so you'll just need to include a link for the book you used when you post the upload link for your recording).

Great to have you with us!

Hi all

This project seems to have fallen silent for a long time. Readers, please come forward to let it see the light of the day.

Here's the reading and the audio!

Thank you, Lily :) Your story is loaded into the "Magic Window." Welcome to the LibriVox, and I love that you're participating in this project!

I'll have proof notes for you at my lunch time with some things to fix (technical specs are off, but those are simple enough to fix without re-recording - so let me check the reading to be sure there aren't edits needed there before we address the specs).

In the meantime, we need to make you a Reader Page. This is the page that the public sees if they look you up from an audiobook in the Catalog. You can use your forum name (the one you've posted under), or some of us use our real names, and some of us use a different psuedonym.

So let me know what name you want us to use to make your catalog page. (We can also include a URL if you have a personal site you want us to link to.)

Hi again, Lily :) (Please note that there is a post prior to this one that needs your attention as well)

Your recording is terrific - no edits needed on the reading.

We just need you to fix the specs. The bit rate has to be constant, and set at 128 kbps. Also, the file name needs to be fixed. It can have no capitals, and should use this form: mlaw010_beggerking_landa_yourinitials_128kb

If you are using Audacity recording software, here is how to do that:
  • Open the file.
  • In the drop-down File menu, select Export > Export as mp3
  • In the lower half of the pop-up window, under "Format Options," look at the Bit Rate line and make sure the radio button for "Constant" is selected
  • On the Quality line, select 128 kb
  • Now save it. (while you're doing this, fix the file name)
And then you can re-upload it to LibriVox. :)

Doing this should set your software correctly for the next time you export a file to mp3, but glance at those settings to make sure they stayed on the correct choices the next time you are submitting a file.

(If you're using a different recording software, I personally don't know how to perform this task, but it may be something similar that you can find.)

As for the reader profile thing, I would just like to use my forum name, Lily1326. Thank you, let me know if there is anything else I need to do for this project! :D

Thank you, Lily!

Here is your personal Reader Page: Lily1326.

You'll see that it lists all the projects you are a part of, both complete and in-progress. It also has a link to the lists of all the sections that are assigned to you for recording and/or prooflistening. Very handy!

And The Begger King is now perfectly PL OK

Thanks much for the contribution! Hope to see you again in LibriVox :)

Thanks! I do really like mythical things and legends, and I noticed your post said no more than two recordings. Would you mind if I did another one for this project?

Absolutely!

You are very welcome to submit another recording for this collection 10, and when Collection 11 is open, you would be welcome to submit two for that one (and any other subsequent collections).

That was fast! Ra and Isis is all loaded and queued for PL.

For your reference, now that your Reader Page is made, you won't need to let BCs know your name preference. The MW (Magic Window, which is the portion that lists the sections and links everything for them) automatically ties the catalog and forum names together. 8-)

Also, when you post the file link for a section you've updated, you won't need to post the specs, but BCs will want to know the length of time for the file. For example, I'll post my files like this:

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/belinda_1_milne_128kb.mp3 (51:30)

Of course, collection projects like this one here do need the extra info like the link to your source, author name, etc. These collections are quite a bit more complicated than "normal" group and solo projects that deal with only one source, and sections are just the chapters in that source.
