Hiya,

Sorry for the trouble but when I was getting set to record chapter 8 I realised the text is not yet in the public domain in my country. Please could chapter 8 be changed to open.

Thanks,

Amatullah

If my first recording is PL OK, I would love to claim this story! So funny!

I understand and have removed your claim to that story.

Thank you! A note -- someone on the bottom of the previous page has claimed Chapter 4, Chop Sticks (I see it is not labeled Assigned on the Magic Window yet, and thought maybe you missed the comment). :)

(Also, I'm new at this -- My username is now in the window for Moon Maiden, which it wasn't before, but my link for the story recording is still not there? Does it not appear until after Proof Listening?)

I was wondering if I could record section 4.

Thanks!
Yes, that section 4 is all yours. Ask if anything is confusing.

Thank you for the nudge about chapter 4, I had missed it. Have you uploaded Moon Maiden? If so and you have pasted the link in this thread, then the book coordinator (me) is supposed to put it into the magic window for a proof listener to check out. It will appear at that time. I will check to see if I've overlooked it.
EDIT: I checked and do not see the link. Just to review, after recording a section and editing it completely, you then upload it to us (see the first post for how to do this) and then post the link as a new post in this thread. I see it and put it into the magic window. So if you have indeed uploaded your finished track let me know.

This post quoted above contains the link for Section 10 -- Moon Maiden :) I see I mentioned the section name, but didn't say the name of the story; that's probably how it got overlooked. Thanks for confirming the process for me!

What a great voice ! But there are some technical things to adjust and make another test:
1. Your recording is in stereo (two tracks); we need it to be mono
2. Your bit rate is 139 variable; we need it to be 128 kbps constant.
3. Your volume is 85.3 decibels; we aim at 89 decibels, plus or minus about 3.

So please fix these things, up your volume a bit and make another test , call it TEST 2 please, upload and put the link here.
If you are using Audacity here is a little video that goes over the first two https://youtu.be/l00VDvGTieg

Please ask if you have any questions and I look forward to your TEST 2 !!

Gotcha. I'll fiddle with it and let you know if I have trouble. I am using Audacity and I have a little experience with the program, but not much! Thanks!

I got the mono recording set and exported with 128 Kbps constant (and set it to 44.1 khz and 16 bit, not that I know what any of that means). I increased the volume on my microphone in Audacity and sat a little closer, then I went to Effects>Normalize to see if that helped with the volume. If it's still too low I can definitely up the microphone volume in Audacity more. Is there a way to tell the decibel level in Audacity?

Also, ignore the running water in the background at the beginning. My husband was doing dishes. Promise no background noise for the real recording!

Those technical specs are now right on the button. But you volume is indeed low at 83.9 dB. The very best thing to do is indeed turn up your microphone gain if you have one because the incoming level is most important. Adjusting it afterwards inside the track can cause problems. If you can't turn up the mic volume then increase the volume inside Audacity with that slider bar. You are only about 3 or 4 db low. Your voice, as before, is simply great!. I have rarely heard such clarity and sweetness in a voice.
Yes, there are several ways to tell your dB level. The one we mostly use is a program called Checker. Here is a videoo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKVOYsaDoRo&feature=youtu.be on how to download and use it. Very simple. But it only checks MP3 files so you must export the file first then check it.
There is also someting called ReplayGain which checks inside Audacity. Here is a video on that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9Uz900RNos&feature=youtu.be

Lastly, there is the good 'ol eyeball method of watching how high your audio track is. Which is what I use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9WF82rf81o I just watch my track and see that it hovers around the + or _ 0.5 level.

In s ummary, please increase your volume, do one more test, call it TEST 3, and stick it here. I promise you will be recording very quickly. !!
