Thank you! Unfortunately, this one is much too low at around 70 DB. If you could try to get the volume in the middle of this one and the first ones, you will be spot on! :-)

Did you re-record this one or just edit it? I am asking because the length is a bit shorter than I would think it would be if you just edited out the honk. Let me know.

Hi, I hope this is alright? I did edit out the horn sound and little voice clicks I heard while listening to the recording if that's okay? Thanks.

Hi,
My name is Faithann Gibson and I'm new to LibriVox. This is my first time posting a recording, except for the 1 minute test. I would like to be listed by my first and last name. (My first name is all one word- Faithann). The story I did is The Tailor of Gloucester, by Beatrix Potter (1886-1943). Here is the Gutenberg link for the story:https://www.gutenberg.org/files/14868/14868-h/14868-h.htm.
And here is the recording (16 minutes, 16 seconds:

I think I did everything you mentioned in your post. Thanks for putting this collection together!

Hi Faithann,

Welcome to Librivox! Here is a link to your catalog page: https://librivox.org/reader/16306

Very nice job! There are a few things that need to be fixed. First the volume is much to low at 79.8 DB. I don't think you will be able to do a straight amplification since there are some spikes. So either you will need to deamplify the spike and then amplify the entire file, or try to use the compression option. If you need help figuring it out, please ask in the Need Help section of the forum.

Also, there is a stumble @14:09 sna....stacks. And the ending silence is a bit long. It should be 5 seconds.

If you could fix these issues and reupload, using the same file name, that would be great! :D

Hi,
I think I fixed it. I had trouble getting exactly 5 seconds at the end, but the volume is better. I ran it through the checker this time and it is definitely louder now ( I have a quiet voice so I'm going have to work on making sure my recordings are loud enough).
Here is the new file:

I hope it works. Thanks!

Hi Faithann!

I used to tinker back and forth trying to get exactly 5 seconds and then I realized I can let it run longer and just trim it to 5 seconds by highlighting and cutting the sections of silence (or near silence) I didn’t want. I’ve found that I would always get a few noises in there as I lined up my mouse to hit the stop button, and there would be a mouse click caught at the very end as I clicked the stop. So what I do now is move my mouse and get lined up and ready to stop, then I start watching the time from the second my hand is still and it’s all quiet. I watch 5 seconds then give it about another half second and click the stop button. Then I cut everything from where I stopped speaking to where I started watching the 5 seconds, then cut that last half second at the end, and boom, 5 perfect seconds!

This probably sounds complicated but you will see it is a lot harder to explain than to do and like a lot of things on here,it becomes fast and automatic once you have done it a while!

Hope this helps!

Colleen

Hi there,

I'd like to add one more to the collection and I found a book of short stories, but they're really short - about 2 minutes or so. Would it be possible to combine a few into one recording to make it longer? If so, how would it be titled?

Thanks!

Hi Heather,

Can you link the book so I can see it? If you want to read the entire book as one file, that would be fine. (assuming it isn't 50 stories and would run to long for one file. :D )

Otherwise, 1 story per file please. 2 minutes is just fine. :-)
