Thank you, Michele - Perfect reading!

Just one PL Note: the LibriVox disclaimer is not included in the intro as per the instructions in first post.

For when I PL in the future, if I have notes am I meant to go into the MW and add the ‘PL Note’ link to them and change the status of the column to ‘See PL Note’?
I've added the disclaimer to the Intro. Good catch. Please check the adjusted file below, then when you are sure it's right, post your PL OK below.

https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/cbc33_ourexperienceincrops_mtf_128kb.mp3 New Time: 10:01

Only the BC/Soloist, DPL and MC can make changes to the MW. I've seen a few DPL's post PL Notes directly into the Notes section of the MW, but most just post their notes to the forum. As PL Notes can be extensive, I prefer the post, with a short note in the MW where the PL Notes can be found (either a link to the post, or Page #, or Date of Post - something easy enough to find.)

If you are PL'ing just one or two files, such as here, when a BC/DPL records some files on a project they are the Proof Listener for, someone else is asked to step in and PL just those files. The BC/DPL will have to adjust the MW per your notes.

Thanks for helping out. Hope you do more.

Great! To find projects that advertise they need a DPL, look for an ~ before the project title in the Readers Wanted sections. If it's a project that you plan to listen to anyway, you get to "kill two birds with one stone", so to speak. Or if you're a reader on a group project that has a DPL, but that person is also submitting files (as I did on this project), you can offer your services.

Hope to see more of you around the LV playground! Feel free to ask if you have questions. There is a lot to learn. :D

Hi Michele!

I'm a newbie looking for my first project. This collection looks like a good place to start, and I'd like to read a chapter from the book you suggested, "Art Out Of Doors," but not sure how to manage that administratively here.

Your post says "There is no need to pre-claim" so I'm wondering if I just record and upload any chapter I want with hopes that no one else has chosen the same chapter? Or do I need to let you know so you can list it in the "Magic Window" to let others know that someone is reading that chapter.

Thank you for a little bit of hand-holding for this first attempt! Eager — but a little nervous — to start!

Hi, Lisa and a great big welcome to Librivox. Don't be nervous. We're a friendly encouraging bunch. Go ahead and record something not already in the MW, on topic and within 15 minutes in length. Be sure to edit it to your satisfaction, save it with the correct file name, upload and post it here (see First Post for all these directions). It is highly unlikely anyone else will choose your exact story for this collection, and we don't generally add titles to the MW before receiving the recording . . . but I kind of like the idea since you're reading from a book I suggested, so let's give it a try. Throw me something, missy! :D

Okay, thank you, Michele, for your encouraging welcome!

FYI: I'll record "Cemeteries," as today's the first day of October and the last day is Halloween!

Title: Art Out of Doors — Chapter XI “Cemeteries”
Author: Mrs. Schuyler Van Rensselaer — 1851–1934
Source Text Link: https://archive.org/details/artoutofdoorshi00vanr/page/229
Uploaded File Link: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/cbc33_cemeteries_lmp_128kb.mp3
File Duration: — 13:12

Hi Michele and Lynne! This is my very first recording for LibriVox, so I'm hoping it comes somewhere close to hitting the target, but I expect that you might have some corrections or guidance (the .mp3 seems quite large, so I wonder if I've saved it correctly). I'll look forward to hearing back from you!

All the best for the weekend ahead!

PL Notes on Cemetaries

Very nice reading, Lisa. I found only one issue: Checker reports: Volume 85.7 dB
LV requires between 86 - 92 dB, with a median of 89 You can easily correct this file in Audacity by selecting all the text, then going Effect/Amplify, then typing in the number you want to increase or decrease the volume. In this case 3.3, bringing up the volume to 89.
You can download our Checker Program to check the volume of all your mp3 files, as well as background levels and other settings, before you upload them.

If you find that you consistently record at low or high volumes, you can correct that using the slider bar in Audacity, or adjust the volume on your microphone. Play with your settings until ithey come out right.

As this is your first Librivox contribution, you'll need to specify a Catalog Name. This is the name that appears next to each section you read on a catalogued book, and once chosen, can't be changed on any catalogued project. HINT: I use my Real Name, Michele Fry, others use their username (e.g., msfry), and others use something else (whatever you'd like your friends to search you by)

Example: https://librivox.org/triumphant-democracy-by-andrew-carnegie/

This only needs to be done once, then you'll be in our catalog!!!!!

You can only update the MW if you are DPL.

Just an FYI:

Section 11 “Cemeteries” is the same author and book as Section 6 which I recorded. The Mrs. was left off in the MW.

Thanks. I added it, though we don't usually see titles in our DB. She isn't in there yet, so let's see how she goes in.

The Glory of the Garden, by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

("Gardening" doing some heavy metaphorical lifting here, but still of interest just for gardeners)

The Glory Of The Garden is PL OK. Thank you Patrick. I don't know how I managed to miss your entry for so long. I've re-subscribed to the project and now it seems to be working. Sorry for the delay. And now I know why MY garden isn't so glorious. It only lacks the back breaking labor!!!!!
