Hi, MaryAnn -

We have a second missing author in the database:

Alice Dracott for this source: Simla Village Tales

and she's another one where I can't find any bio page online

Let me know if the quality is okay -- there's kind of an echo where I'm recording, which I tried to limit by lowering my voice and getting closer to microphone; also my voice is rougher than usual today and I'm not sure why! It's short enough to be easy to re-record if necessary and I'll be back at my home base tomorrow so I'll be happy to redo if you think it needs it.

Hey, Colleen! Good to see you back in the MLAW collections. :)

Thank you very much for your offer to help with the PL'ing. Now that Real Life is a little better squared away, I'm good at the moment. But I will definitely keep you in mind if we get a ton of submissions while extended family are here for our daughter's wedding in a couple of weeks.

I don't think you need to re-record The Story of Panch Mar Khan. It sounded plenty good enough - I wasn't distracted at all from the reading, the way some files with way too much Noise Reduction get.

So we're calling this PL OK

Hi, Cathy! Welcome to Librivox! It's very nice to have you with us. I remember very well how confusing everything was when I first got here. It all sorts out, though, and things get much smoother for you!

When you upload a file to LV, you'll need to post the link of the upload which appears when the file is finished, and it will look like this:

https://mc@librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/mlaw009_birdofparadise_frary_ch_128kb.mp3

(What you've posted is just the name of the file, which doesn't actually give me the file, as I can't see the upload folder at all.) Never fear this time! Our wonderful MC was able to dig up the file that was yours, so I do have it now for the Magic Window.

**BUT - I can't formally assign your section for you until we've made you a Catalog Reader Page. I need to know what name you want us to use for that? (Some of us use our real names, others use their forum posting name, and others make up a different psuedonym.)

If you reply with what name you want used, I'll get your page made and finish assigning the section for your story. :)

Again, welcome to LibriVox!
Hi there! I've PL'd your file in anticipation of getting the reader page information from you.

Your Bird of Paradise story is so nicely read - I love your recording. :)

It does need two easy edits:

1 - The silences at the beginning and end need to be clipped to the lengths that LibriVox needs. (Open the file and zoom the track in so that you can easily see the half-second marks. Now clip the front silence so that it's only .5 to 1 second long. And clip the end silence so that it's only 3 to 5 seconds long. Right now they are significantly longer than these parameters.)

2 - The decibels are a little too low on the volume. If you are Using Audacity, after you've clipped the silences, push Control-A to highlight the entire track. Now, in the drop down menu for Effects, choose Amplify. Type a 2 in the top box (ignore anything else), and push OK or Enter. Voila! The file volume will be a little higher!

Now you can re-export the edited recording to mp3 and reupload it in LibriVox.

When you first uploaded, you named your file quite nicely, but when you reply that you've uploaded the edited file, make sure you copy/paste the actual link of the upload, instead of just the file name. ;D

This is a very nice contribution for our collection. I'm glad you've done one, and I hope you enjoy helping in LibriVox!

(Please let me know if I can help you in any way.)

Hi, JaybirdSummers!

Welcome to LibriVox! :) Unlike most projects here, on this one, people don't preclaim a section. You simply go ahead and record an appropriate short story that you know is in the Public Domain, and submit it. The main post tells you which information is needed in your post when you notify us with the uploaded link. I remember how confusing things could be when I started out, though, so ask any questions for clarification that you need.

You can also ask here about a given story if you're not sure whether it's Public Domain.

We keep a fresh Myths and Legends Around the World collection open all the time, so if you do a recording and come back here only to find section 12 filled, just post that you have a story, and we'll make sure you have a link for collection 10. :)
------

EDIT: Oh - by the way! Make sure you do the 1-minute test thing. It's not any kind of audition at all, but does give you a good place for making sure all your settings are correct before going to the work of a real recording.

Here is the link: 1-Minute Test

That page contains a link for using Audacity, if that's the software you're recording with: Audacity 1-2-3

Each of these pages has specific step-by-step help for getting everything set up the way our files need to be done for the Archive. And if something is going whacky, Listeners & Editors is the board where folks will offer help. :)

Glad to have you with us!

Hey,

I hope there aren't any major issues, but if there are some I'll be glad to see some feedback and improve/re-record this. :)
Am hoping this will prove usefull,

Thank you, Janckee! And welcome to LibriVox!

I've got your recording loaded into the Magic Window (and queued for PL), but we need to get your Catalog Reader Page made before the system will let me assign the section to you.

What name would you like us to use for that page? It is what listeners see when they are looking at the audiobooks. Some of us use our real names, others use their forum working name (the one you've posted under), and others make up another pseudonym.

Edited for PL NOTE:

Your recording is just fine - the section is PL OK, other than awaiting your name choice for the above-mentioned Reader Page.

Thanks for responding quickly :) Here is your personal Reader Page: Janckee.

You'll see that it lists all the projects you are a part of, both complete and in-progress. It also has a link to the lists of all the sections that are assigned to you for recording and/or prooflistening. Very handy!

Hope to see you around LibriVox some more :)

And Zeus is now marked PL OK

Hi

I would like to read 'The story of Vickramadit', an ancient Indian legend from the book 'Simla Village Tales; Or, Folk Tales from the Himalayas by Alice Dracott' (Link: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58816). Please allow me to proceed.

I am a new member of the forum.
