I would like to read 'The story of Vickramadit', an ancient Indian legend from the book 'Simla Village Tales; Or, Folk Tales from the Himalayas by Alice Dracott' (Link: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58816). Please allow me to proceed.

I am a new member of the forum.

Hello, Chinmay! Welcome to LibriVox. I apologize for being away, as our daughter was getting married. :)

This would be a lovely addition to the Myths and Legends Around the World project. This project is a little different from most audiobook projects, in that you will go ahead and record the story, then submit it according to the instructions on the first post - rather than having a section reserved to you ahead of time. If submissions get turned in ahead of yours and fill all 12 slots, your story will simply be placed in the Collection 10 files which would then be opened.

Before you record your story, though, you will want to do the 1-Minute Test and post the file to the Listeners & Editors Wanted board? It's not actually a test or audition of any kind, but is solely meant to make sure your system is set properly before you do all the work of a real section.

Here is the link: 1-Minute Test

That page contains a link for using Audacity, if that's the software you're recording with: Audacity 1-2-3

Each of these pages has specific step-by-step help for getting everything set up the way our files need to be done for the Archive. And if something is going whacky, Listeners & Editors is the board where folks will offer help. :)

Glad to have you with us!

I read The Castle of Anoush, an Armenian legend. It reads similar to a Greek tragedy.

Hey Guys!
If you have a space open, I'd like to read "How Thor Lost his Hammer." Here's the link to the story, which I found on Gutenberg:

Hi, Lector!

We have one last section open for a recording submission. Unlike most LV projects, with this collection we do not reserve sections ahead of time. That's because if you make your recording and come back to find section 12 filled, you'd simply go to Collection 10 and submit your recording there. :)

We always keep a Myths and Legends project open. Looking forward to your Thor story!

Here you are! I had fun with this. Sorry if it doesn't sound very good; I haven't done LV recordings in a good while and I'm a little rusty.

Hi, Lector!

Your recording is not bad. It does get flagged by Checker for background noise - if you want to run Noise Reduction on the file, I wouldn't do it higher than 8. If you'd rather leave the file as it is, we can ignore Checker's comment and call it PL OK :)

Let me know what you want to do. I'll be wrapping Collection 9 up for MaryAnn to catalogue in the next couple of days.

And thanks for the contribution!

I tried to take the background noise out. The audio sounds really weird for me; I don't know if it will for you. If it does, we can use my original recording.

Thank you, Lector! I thought that might happen with the audio distortion, so despite Checker's flag on the background noise, we'll use the original track. It really is not bad - everything was perfectly audible to me. :)

Edited audiobook intro:

This collection is dedicated to recordings of short mythical or legendary works which are in the Public Domain. The stories tell of legends, heroes, myths, and ancient lore from many different cultures.

OK!! We are ready for cataloguing! :9:

Lynette,

Can you check Section 6 (Zeus) in the MW? It's not showing with a source or author on the draft catalog page.

Thanks.
