The Rover Vol. 01 No. 10, by Seba Smith (1792 - 1868) and Lawrence Labree

This project is now complete! All audio files can now be found on the catalog page for this project https://librivox.org/rover-01-10-by-various/
"The Rover: A weekly magazine of tales, poetry and engravings, original and selected" was a magazine started in 1843 by Seba Smith and Lawrence Labree. The editors aimed at a high quality standard in their selection of short stories and poetry. Every half-year, the 26 weekly issues were also published under a bound compilation. This is the tenth issue, with yet another interesting mix of poetry and prose texts. (Summary by Sonia)

hello Andrea, and welcome to our forum :D Thank you for your interest in the Rover magazine.

I see you already passed the one minute test, so you can straightaway launch yourself in your first official recording. I just opened your personal reader page, where all your projects will be listed: https://librivox.org/reader/16075 If you want to go by another reader name (for example your real name) then let me know and I can still change this.

Now have fun with your first recording. Since you are new, please read carefully through the first post, it has all the details on how to correctly speak the intro/title/outro and how to name the finished file.

Hi Sonia, thank you so much! The personal reader page will be very useful. I would indeed prefer to go by my real name (Andrea Olson), thanks again!

The phrase en française just leapt out randomly and unsolicited, so I went with it. Here is Section 1. I am afraid I may have erred in translating the Latin. Jim 8-)

thank you Jim, what a lovely and interesting chapter. This cemetary must be wonderful to visit. :9:

As for the Latin (or any other language) we never translate any of it (unless it's specifically done in footnotes or in brackets by the author). Remember: no changing what the author wrote, no modern commentary by the readers ;) So you needn't have done it. I also think these lines are easily understood, since it's written on a tombstone.

Could you please cut out the following and correct the death date ?

> at 12:11: "Heart of hearts"
> at 12:14: "born"
> at 12:19: "died"
> at 12:21: "1822" - you say "1882" (which would have made him live to 90 years  - well I guess he wouldn't have complained...he died too young)

The rest was perfect, thanks
